  • ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿฅณ Scoil Spreagtha - Irish Language Programme ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿฅณ

    Mon 20 Nov 2023

We are delighted to announce that we are one of the chosen schools to take part in the brand new accredited scheme ‘Scoil Spreagtha’.

‘Scoil Spreagtha’ is an accredited scheme to recognise and celebrate efforts made by English-medium schools to encourage the use of Irish in the school environment. ‘Scoil Spreagtha’ in its design aims to inspire schools to showcase and expand their efforts to promote the use of Irish in the school setting.

‘Scoil Spreagtha’ is the most substantial scheme for the promotion of languages in our education system. Running from November to June, the scheme will culminate in end-of-year celebration events where successful schools, who have fully met the scheme’s accreditation criteria, will receive their ‘Scoil Spreagtha’ status for the 2023-2024 academic year. We look forward to working towards reaching our accreditation and appreciate your support in our efforts.

    Thank you!

    A chairde,

Cuireann sé gliondar ar ár gcroithe insint daoibh gur roghnaíodh muid le bheith ar scoil de na scoileanna a bheas páirteach sa scéim chreidiúnaithe úr ‘Scoil Spreagtha’.

Beidh ‘Scoil Spreagtha’ ina scéim chreidiúnaithe agus cheiliúrtha a spreagfaidh na hiarrachtaí sin i scoileanna lán-Bhéarla úsáid na Gaeilge a chothú i dtimpeallacht na scoile. Forbraíodh ‘Scoil Spreagtha’ ar an chuspóir go mbeadh an scéim ina hinspioráid ag scoileanna a n-iarrachtaí ár dteanga dhúchais a chur chun cinn i suíomh na scoile a léiriú agus a mhéadú.

Tá ‘Scoil Spreagtha’ ar an scéim is mó agus is tábhachtaí i gcur chun cinn na dteangacha ó thuaidh ó cuireadh stop leis an scéim ‘Primary Modern Languages’ i 2015. Ag rith ó mhí na Samhna 2023 go mí an Mheithimh 2024, tiocfaidh an scéim chun buaice ag deireadh na scoilbhliana le himeachtaí ceiliúrtha ag a mbronnfar stádas mar ‘Scoil Spreagtha’ ar na scoileanna rathúla don scoilbhliain 2023-2024. Tá muid ag dúil go mór le bheith ag obair i dtreo na creidiúnaithe agus bheimis fíorbhuíoch as bhur dtacaíocht lenár n-iarrachtaí.

    Go raibh maith agaibh!

Scoil Spreagtha Gael Linn Foras na Gaeilge

  • ๐Ÿšฆ๐Ÿ‘ง Road Safety Week & World Children's Day ๐Ÿšฆ๐Ÿ‘ง

    Sat 18 Nov 2023

We are very excited that next week we will be celebrating Road Safety Week and World Children's Day. Children will be taking part in fun and engaging lessons to develop their awareness of road safety, Children's Rights, and the Global Goals. To mark the end of celebrations and the week's activities we are asking children to wear blue to school on Friday 24th November. This is part of our Be Bright Be Seen campaign for Road Safety and to turn the world blue to raise awareness for Children's Rights globally!

We look forward to seeing all the children and staff in their various shades of blue on Friday!

  • ๐ŸŽค๐ŸšซMake a Noise about Bullying๐ŸŽค๐Ÿšซ

    Fri 17 Nov 2023

This week in school we participated in Anti-Bullying Week. Anti-Bullying week sends a clear and positive message that bullying is unacceptable in our school and community. During the week the pupils participated in discussions about what bullying actually is. This way they can identify bullying if it happens in class and everyday life, as well as understand why it is wrong. The week was introduced with Odd Socks Day on Monday, where adults and children wore odd socks to school to celebrate what makes us all special and unique.

The theme for Anti-Bullying Week 2023 is ‘Make a Noise about Bullying’. At times, we are silent when we see bullying take place, silent about the hurt bullying causes, and silent when we hear bullying dismissed as ‘just banter’. It doesn't have to be this way. Of course, we won’t be best friends with everyone, and we won’t always agree, but we can choose unity and respect. This Anti-Bullying Week our school community came together to discuss what bullying means to us, how banter can turn into something more hurtful, and what we can do to stop bullying. We learned that together, we can make a difference and take a stand against bullying.

    Sun 12 Nov 2023

On Thursday 9th November we received a very special visitor in school. Local author Charlie Graham came to St Colmcille’s to share his latest book, Missing Monkeys.

Each class enjoyed a story workshop with Charlie. During the workshops, Charlie talked about his experiences as an author, his inspiration for his stories and his career to date. To conclude each workshop, Charlie read his story ‘Missing Monkeys’ to the pupils. It was a fantastic day and a wonderful experience for all the pupils to meet a real life author!

  • Recycling Workshop

    Sat 11 Nov 2023

Last Thursday, our Primary 7 pupils welcomed Noel from Arc 21, who led a fantastic recycling workshop. In this workshop, pupils explored the critical importance of recycling for our planet and how poor recycling efforts impact negatively on household rates bills.

Primary 7 then got hands on with their recycling, by creating a recycled pencil case from cereal boxes, a personalised recycling badge and a recycled bookmark from scrap paper.

It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience for our Primary 7s. Many thanks to Noel for his guidance, as well as the wonderful session!
