Welcome to the website of St Colmcille's Primary School. Our website is aimed at keeping pupils and parents fully updated about all aspects of school life, as well as giving visitors, prospective parents and pupils a flavour of what life is like in our wonderful school community.
St Colmcille’s is a co-educational Primary School with three attached Learning Support Centres catering for children with Special Educational Needs. We are the only school is the East Down Area with a specific Nurture Centre, assisting children with social, emotional and behavioural issues. Our Nurture Centre was recently awarded the prestigious 'Marjorie Boxall Award’ for outstanding practice within Nurture Education.
St Colmcille's is an innovative and forward-thinking school that constantly seeks opportunities to improve pupils' learning experiences by embracing new classroom technology. All of the classrooms in our recently refurbished school building are equipped with Interactive White Boards and Multi-Touch Panels. In recognition of our continued high quality practice in the area of ICT, we are proud to have been recognised by Hewlett Packard as a 'Digital School of Distinction.' In February 2019, we were delighted to receive a hugely positive Sustainable Improvement Inspection Report, building on the success of previous reports in February 2012 and June 2015. You can read these reports in the "About Us" section of "Key Information" on our school website.
The pupils of St Colmcille's are known for their good behaviour, their attendance and their attitude to learning. We are privileged to have a dedicated and experienced staff, who are extremely friendly and child-centred, and we enjoy excellent relationships with our parents. We work hard to continually monitor and evaluate all aspects of school performance. Our teachers and parents form a partnership aimed at providing the best possible standard of education to our young people. The holistic development of our young people is central to our ethos and we provide an extensive and varied programme of extra-curricular activities which includes Art & Crafts, a wide variety of Sporting Clubs, Construction, ICT, Cookery and STEAM. To facilitate working parents and make life easier for families, our pupils can attend Breakfast Club every morning from 8.15am. We have fostered strong links with Downpatrick Parish, Ballymote Health & Well Being Centre, RGU Downpatrick and many local organisations and businesses. We also provide programmes for parents and grandparents, making sure that St Colmcille's remains at the heart of the local community.
We really hope that you enjoy your visit to our website and that you will find it informative. We update the website regularly with news, events and all the latest school activities.
