The Three Little Pigs

We have been learning about The Three Little Pigs in Literacy. But it hasn’t been the traditional tale we know. We have explored an alternative modern version, in which the pigs are arrested for boiling the wolf. They were found guilty for insurance fraud! This week we have been thinking about the most important information we can gather from a report. The children worked together to watch the news report video and summarise the main ideas.

Persuasive Leaflets

P5 have linked their World Around Us topic about famous landmarks with their literacy writing this term. The pupils have created persuasive leaflets which they have written in their books then using the ICT skill of Exhibiting, they published their leaflets using Book Creator.

Persuasive Holiday Leaflets

We spent some time looking at various leaflets persuading us to visit different cities throughout the world such as London, Sydney and Melbourne. We found the key features of these persuasive leaflets and looked at the various paragraphs and different types of language used to persuade people to visit these cities.

Digital Art Persuasive Posters

P5 have combined their knowledge of persuasive advertisements with their work on Anti-Bullying this week. The children followed the 'Express' area of the ICT curriculum to design their own poster and slogans to advertise the Anti-Bullying message of Respect using Adobe Express.

Persuasive Language

We have been using our stimulus of ‘The Small Shoemaker’ to think about how the different shoemakers in the story could advertise their businesses using positive and persuasive language.

Advertisements

The pupils looked through various newspapers to find advertisements from different companies. The pupils thought about what the best advertisements were and what features were used.

Parts of Speech

We have been revising some of the different parts of speech which are found in sentences, including nouns, verbs, adverbs and prepositions.

P5 have been looking at the opening chapter of The Worst Witch, and identifying the different parts of speech used.

World Poetry Day

We have celebrated World Poetry day this week by listening to some different famous poems performed by poets to think about the best ways to perform poems using body language and facial expressions to bring them to life. P5 then created their own individual poems based on the theme ‘my voice counts’.

Report Planning

We have been looking at different types of non-chronological reports and how they are set out. P5 are learning how to write their own report about a rainforest animal of their choice. In order to plan their report, the pupils have been considering what sub-headings are needed and researching the relevant information to write their report.

Roald Dahl Day

P5 explored our favourite Roald Dahl books. We gathered information in a tally chart, then created bar charts to show the information. The pupils also designed their favourite book cover.
