πWALT: understand how our choices impact Climate Change π
While the school was learning about Climate Change we chose to focus on the impact we have by managing our waste. We learned about the negative impacts throwing our rubbish can have on wildlife and the environment. Then we created posters to highlight awareness and participated in a class protest with a chant of ‘keep our earth green and clean!’ We had great fun and this ignited a lot of curiosity about protests about other important issues going on in the world right now.
π¦π§πΌ Rights Day - learning about the difference between needs and wants. We then linked this with our knowledge of rights and how they are the same as needs.
ππWALT: explore the season of Autumn using our senses ππ
We began with a seasonal walk around our school grounds to observe signs of Autumn. Some observations were that it was colder and we had to wear our coats, apples had grown and fallen off the trees, leaves had changed colour and fallen onto the ground. Back in class we used items we had collected to explore patterns and through touch and used apples to print Autumn trees.
π¦π§πΌWALT: celebrate our similarities and differences π§πΌπ¦
We have been exploring our similarities and differences through our stories in Literacy this week. To help us understand this better and learn more about our peers we took part in a game called, ‘change places.’ In the game we took turns standing in the middle asking everyone to, ‘change places if…
- you have a brother
- have blue eyes
- have brown hair
- like chocolate
π§βοΈPE - Yoga π§βοΈ
As it had been raining we took part in some indoor yoga for this weeks PE session. We had great fun learning some of the poses - butterfly, tree and warrior. This was also a great session for getting our bodies focused and ready to learn.
π±π» European Languages Day π±π»
We started our day discussing what European Languages Day is and learnt how to say ‘hello’ in different languages using an upbeat and child friendly song. We then looked at Latvia in more detail as Sofija and her family are Latvian. We learnt some facts about Latvia and created our own Latvian flags.
π§πΌπ§π½βοΈWALT: name parts of our face and body π§πΌπ§π½βοΈ
As part of our topic, ‘Marvellous Me’ we took part in a number of activities to help us name and explore our facial features and parts of our bodies. We took selfies and drew our self-portraits, painted our hands, painted pictures of ourselves. We had a lot of discussion around our similarities and differences e.g. size difference, colour of eyes/hair etc.
πWALT: navigate space and follow instructionsπ
Our PE for this term focuses on developing our ability to listen and follow instructions. We play a variety of games that encourage us to travel in different ways and develop our spatial awareness.
πΊπ³WALT: develop our understanding of living things π³πΊ
We learnt that all living things grow and change and that they need food and water. Many of us were surprised to learn that plants were living things and we decided to explore this further. We used iPads to take photographs of living things in our school grounds and recorded our observations as illustrations. We even found some mini beasts during our hunt π·οΈ
