Revising our spellings - 05.12.24
P6/7 have been listening closely to pronunciations of their weekly spellings containing our Sound of the Week before having a go at spelling them independently.
Identifying figurative language - 13.11.24
Today P6/7 explored how figurative language is used in literature. We explored examples of poems which use S.H.A.M.P.O.O (symbolism, hyperbole, alliteration, metaphor/simile, personification, onomatopoeia, oxymorons). P6/7 had a go at finding different examples of each.
Identifying variations of our S.O.T.W - 06.11.24
P6/7 have been working hard on using the correct variation of our Sound of the Week (S.O.T.W) to ensure our spellings are correct. This week we are focusing on our au/aw sound. Today, we were challenged with finding practical examples of our S.O.T.W and ensuring they were in the correct category/variation.
Using expanded noun phrases to add extra detail to our writing - 05.11.24
Today we watched the short film Beyond the Lines which told the story of two young boys reading a detailed recount by their grandfather, explaining his experiences while storming the beaches of Normandy during WW2. The former soldier added so much detail that the young boys felt as though they were there.
P6/7 then had a go at developing their note taking skills by writing key words that come to mind when we think of a warzone, as well imagining what our five senses would experience in a similar scenario. We then used our notes to create extended sentences with extra detail to create a detailed description for readers.
Sound of the Week crossword - 16.10.24
P6/7 have been continuing to work hard, exploring unknown words containing our Sound of the Week. This week our sound is our e/ai sound.
Finding practical examples of our S.O.T.W - 09.10.24
P6/7 have been working hard all week focusing on spellings based on our ‘oo’ sound and have found lots of practical examples around our school.
National Poetry Day - Onomatopoeia Poems - 03.10.24
Using persuasive language - 02.10.24
Today we had a go at trying to use persuasive language and techniques as part of a talking and listening exercise. We worked together in small groups in our outdoor classroom to try and convince our classmates to agree with a statement which we were provided. After we presented our arguments, our classmates got to vote on how convincing we were. If we persuaded them, they displayed a green card, if they weren’t yet convinced, they displayed a red card.
Using personification to add extra detail to our writing - 25.09.24
Today we watched the short animation Home Sweet Home. The short film told a story without any dialogue and brought two characters which were inanimate objects to life by giving them personality and characteristics that a living being might have. After we identified how the animators did this, we had a go at using personification ourselves to bring some objects of our own to life.
Sound of the Week anagrams - 19.09.24
P6/7 have been working hard this week to find new words containing our ‘ay’ sound and have been using anagrams to strengthen our spelling based on this sound.
Using body language and expression - Show, donβt tell - 18.09.24
P6/7 have been exploring how a character's body language or facial expressions can tell us how they are feeling. We watched the David Guetta music video, Titanium, and used inference to explore how the characters were feeling. We then had a game of charades in our outdoor classroom to see if we could successfully use body language and facial expressions to portray how we were feeling.
Roald Dahl Day 2024 - 13.09.24
On Friday we celebrated Roald Dahl Day. We explored the life of Dahl and read some of the short stories from his book 'Boy.' We explored some of his most famous characters and the impact they have had on popular culture before we had a go at creating our own Road Dahl style characters.
