St. Colmcille's Primary School
and Learning Support Centres

Special Occasions / Class News

For the past few weeks, our Primary P6/7 took part in a fantastic workshop, led by Michelle from ‘MyBNK’. This focused on financial responsibility. In these sessions, they explored the importance of financial planning, the benefits of thinking carefully before we spend our money and ways to encourage financial responsibility in their lives.

It was a fantastic learning opportunity for our Primary 7s and a great support to them moving forward. Thanks to Michelle and the MyBnk team for their support!

Bee Safe Workshop - 12.03.25

Today we visited the Ballymote Community Centre to meet a number of representatives from our local community who help us on a regular basis. This included representatives from our local council, Translink and the NI Fire and Rescue Service.

P6/7 had the opportunity to step back in time today and experience what life was like for children in The Victorian Era during a trip to Ulster Folk Museum. P6/7 experienced what a school lesson for children would have been like in the late 1800s as well as exploring Victorian homes and getting the opportunity to visit Victorian businesses. We were also treated to some homemade soda bread made by a peat fire and of course we couldn’t leave without visiting the confectioner to buy some old fashioned sweets.

Quiz Success!

A massive congratulations to Antonia, Jonah from P6/7 and Einin and Conor from P7, who represented our school in the Downpatrick Credit Union Schools Quiz on Friday (7th February). They made a great team and did a fantastic job taking home the prize for 2nd place in the senior section. Well done.

100 reps for 100 days!

To celebrate our 100th day of school, P6/7 put their full energy into doing 20 push ups, 20 sit ups, 20 star jumps, 20 burpees and we finished with a 20 second plank which was everybody's favourite!

Local author visit - Tim Bailie - 04.02.25

Today we were visited by Tim Bailie who read us his book, The Proud Parakeet. A fantastic story explaining the importance of never judging a book by the cover. This was a fantastic experience and Tim was very kind to take a Q&A session, providing some advice on how to be a successful story teller.

Visitors from The North Pole - 17.12.24

P6/7 were very lucky to be visited by Santa today. Many thanks to everyone who organised the visit.

Over the past few weeks, children from P7 have been working hard to develop their own business. On Wednesday 11th December, representatives from P6/7 and LSC4 attended the Big Market in St. George's Market, Belfast, along with other primary and secondary schools from throughout Northern Ireland. The event was hosted by Young Enterprise NI. The boys and girls received excellent feedback, and their enthusiasm did not go unnoticed as some members were interviewed by BBC Ulster, asking what makes a successful business.

We were delighted to not only make a profit but also to be selected as the overall winners of the Business Beginnings Programme (best primary business).

A special mention goes to Antonia and Jonah who delivered our business pitch to the judges. Jonah was also selected for a Judges' Special Recognition Award for his role of Marketing Manager and his ability to answer questions based on the business.

After our success in Belfast, we welcomed children from P1-7 to visit our 'pop-up shop' later in the week and purchase some of our products.

During Road Safety Week, P6/7 took part in a class discussion focusing on the best ways to stay safe when crossing and using the road. P6/7 also took part in our school road safety poster competition, providing some excellent posters highlighting the importance of staying safe on the roads.

Anti-bullying Week - 11-15th November

This week we celebrated Anti-Bullying week. The week began with Odd Sock Day which allowed us
to celebrate our differences. P6/7 also took the opportunity on this day to create their own
anti-bullying pledge. We also took the opportunity to create some animations offering support to
others and raising awareness of the issue.

Halloween Fun Day - 24.10.24

Today was frightening fun in P6/7. There was some eerie Numeracy work completed, a spooky quiz and some brilliant Halloween artwork completed. It is safe to say the highlight for most of the boys and girls was visiting the school hall to find it had been transformed into a spectacular, spooky disco. A big thank you to all involved. They did a fantastic job.

P7 resilience workshop - 08.10.24

Today Primary 7 took part in an interactive workshop in which we explored the importance of resilience. A very important characteristic in a year in which we will face many changes and challenges.
