To celebrate National Storytelling Week we looked at how we can use ICT to create our own book. We used the Book Creator app to give pupils the opportunity to create their own story. Pupils could decide to create a traditional book with images and words or if they wanted to create an audio book with images and then a voiceover from the pupils telling us the story.
We had a visit from an author called Tim Bailie. Tim was in to talk to us about his new book - The Proud Parakeet. The pupils really enjoyed the reading of the book and especially the Parakeet hat Tim wore.
We looked at our new Literacy story called Embarked. The pupils had to listen to a description and then create a model tree house that they felt matched the description.
Creating an animation to show an alternative ending to our story.
We built spelling spirals to work on our sound of the week. The spiral has a number of words that begin with our spelling sound and it can be lifted out of the book to create a spiral tree.
To work on our instructional writing we created model space rockets linked to our Literacy activity. We created our rockets in stages to help with our writing. Once the rockets were complete we used the laptops to write up the stages or instructions for how to make the rocket focussing on using bossy verbs.
Using different activities on the iPad and painting to work on our words that contain the m sound.
We looked at our new Litercay clip which is called The Way Back Home. We had to use the descriptions to create a space rocket using a range of different blocks.
Building high frequency words and words containing our sound of the week.
Celebrating National Poetry Day in LSC3. We used our poetry skills to explore rhyming and how to create a senses poem. This involved taking part in a senses session outside to help understand each of our senses and how we can use them to create a poem.
To continue our work on description, settings and our senses we used Minecraft to create a model of a beach. This model had to include different aspects that we would expect a beach to have. We then worked on using descriptive adjectives to discuss our beach with a lot more detail.
Using magnetic letters to build words with our sound of the week in them.
To work on our instructional writing we made cloud makers using step by step instructions created by the class. This linked to our story which is called a Cloudy Lesson.
To celebrate Roald Dahl day we created our own marvellous medicine which was based on the book Georgeβs Marvellous Medicine. The pupils added in some crazy items to make their medicine .
To explore our senses we went to different places around our school grounds to see what we could hear, touch, smell etc. The pupils had to really concentrate on the different senses and what they were experiencing .
Exploring our school to find words that begin with our initial sounds.
