World Around Us

9/1/25 WALT understand the importance of health eating. As part of their Human Body topic, Mr McEvoy's P6 class enjoyed a workshop from the NI Chest, Heart and Stroke Charity where they discussed all things healthy eating. The children were guided through the 'Eat Well Guide' and were informed about healthy and unhealthy foods and how they impact the body. The children were shocked to see how much sugar was in some of their favourite snacks. They were active participants throughout and enjoyed a competitive interactive quiz against one another.

21/11/24 Today, we took part in a mock protest to highlight and petition for single use plastics to be banned. This allowed us to demonstrate that every day, we should use our voices for good and that the voice of the child is a powerful tool.

13/11/24 WALT understand our rights. P6 have been revising their rights this week, taking part in discussions about rights before creating a poster with some friends on one of the rights.

24/10/24 WALT weave paper plates. As part of our topic, Textiles, P6 have been learning how to weave using wool and a paper plate. Check back for the finished product, the boys and girls are persevering in a task that requires lots of patience!

WALT know and understand the term β€˜fast fashion’. We have been learning about fast fashion and the associated issues it causes the environment. Pupils are using their learning to create a poster on fast fashion using the application Book Creator.

WALT create a mill. As part of our Textiles topic P6 pupils were challenged to create a mill usimg Minecraft. The pupils took inspiration from real mills that they researched and then got creative by working together to design and build functioning mills. Great fun!

8/10/24 WALT say simple phrases in Irish. The boys and girls loved their first Irish lesson with Mrs Smith this week. The pupils learned how to introduce themselves before finishing off with a very fun game of head, shoulders, knees and toes! We are already looking forward to next Tuesday!

WALT learn about another language. What a treat P6 had on European Day of Languages when our very own Amir taught our class about Persian. The pupils learned about letter formation, joining letters and how in Persian we work from right to left. The pupils then had a go at writing their names, under the watchful eye of their teacher Amir. Super job Amir!

WALT locate countries that import textiles to Ireland. The boys and girls have been learning about which countries provide Ireland with textiles this week and were then tasked with locating them on the globe. The pupils are interested in where their own clothes and uniforms were made and the journeys they take before they get to our wardrobes at home!

WALT look after our gardens! P6 have been enjoying preparing our planter box for new plants. As you can see from the photos, the boys and girls had their work cut out to clear the weeds and dead plants, an essential step before planting the new winter shrubs. Look how proud they are of their hard work!

WALT take inspiration from famous artists. P6 loved learning about and taking inspiration from Romero Britto. The children learned about his style and studied his art work before putting their own spin on it with these fantastic self portraits.
