Minibeast Problem Solving with more than one step
Addition, doubling and counting

We rolled the dice twice, added together and counted out the total number of minibeasts for the jar. Some children even extended this to doubling and then finding the corresponding total in words.

Problem Solving Easter Egg Hunt

We had great fun solving the numeracy clues which lead us to the Easter treat basket!

Coordinates

We are learning to read coordinates.

We used the coordinates to find the images on the grid.

WALT: Share the leaves equally between the minibeasts

Problem Solving With Money

Money
We have been learning about money this term. We have discussed the value of coins with ordering and matching activities. We discussed and completed activities paying exact amounts and worked together to find different ways to pay the same amounts. We enjoyed money bingo and iPad activities to consolidate our learning.

WALT: Identify and name 2D shapes

WILF: I can find and name 2D shapes in our environment

WALT: Sequence numbers from 0-20

We have been completing lots of practical activities to help us sequence numbers. We have been learning to count forwards/backwards, identify numbers before/after and order numbers from smallest-biggest and biggest-smallest.

WALT: Compare lengths and order from shortest to longest

W.A.L.T: Recognise and name 3D shapes.

This week we have been exploring the different 3D shapes. The children enjoyed sorting the range of objects according to their shape name; cylinders, cuboids, spheres and cubes.

29/09/23       W.A.L.T: Distinguish between 2D and 3D shapes.

Today the children were introduced to 3D shapes. They learnt that 2D shapes are flat, while 3D shapes are solid objects with length, width and height. They spent time feeling each of the shapes and clapping over them to see if they were flat or not. Then, they worked together to sort a range of shapes into two categories; 2D and 3D.

W.A.L.T: Recognise 2D shapes in the environment.

The children revised the names of 2D shapes. We discussed the shapes we could see in our classroom. Then they enjoyed walking around the school grounds to find real-life 2D shapes. They spotted many circles, triangles, rectangles, squares and even some pentagons. They took photographs on their iPads of each shape they found.

W.A.L.T. Recognise 2D shapes.

As a whole class we discussed the different shapes we saw. The children chose their own shapes and placed these on the correct name card. We talked about how many sides each shape had. They explored the shapes by making their own shape picture. Then, they tried making some of the shapes themselves using lollipop sticks.
