Numeracy

08.04.24 Diving by 2

Today we spent the afternoon working on our division as we engaged in some activity based learning. Working with our learning partners, we had a chance to practise our division skills in a range of activities that challenged us to use our mathematical minds.

21.03.24 Easter Problem Solving
Today we took our problem solving outdoors as we hunted for eggs with clues to crack. We worked together to solve each clue before arriving back at the classroom to some chocolate bunny surprises!

19.03.24 Division

We engaged in some activity based learning today as we began division by grouping. We used challenge cards to divide cubes and counters into equal group's. We even recognised the answers to some questions straight away with the help of our multiplication knowledge.

28.02.24 Venn Diagrams

We tied some of our World around us learning into our topic maths today as we sorted different polar animals into Venn diagrams. We sorted each animal according to their specific features, which helped us to answer questions and apply our learning.

26.02.24 Times Tables

We have been pushing ahead in our numeracy knowledge and learning our three times tables this week. We took out our cubes and lego before getting to work with multiplying groups of three with numbers up to 12.

31.01.24 Money Wise

Today we put our mathematical knowledge to the test and recorded different amounts using a decimal point. We worked with a partner to take turns and build our understanding of coins and notes. We can’t wait to test our money handling skills in real life!

23.11.23 Tangrams!
We engaged in some cross curricular learning today and combined our numeracy topic work with the celebrations that we are focusing on in The World Around Us. We made some animals from the Chinese New Year calendar using tangrams. Using language like rotate and manipulate supported us in understanding the direction in which to place each of the 2D shapes! After practicing with tangram templates we even made our own versions of the animals!

25.10.23 Problem Solving with IZAK9

We put our minds together to problem solve today by working out number patterns using the IZAK9 resources. We made patterns in two’s, four’s and five’s, and took turns to work out which number came next in each pattern. We are proud of ourselves for working as a determined team of marvellous mathematicians!

16.10.23 Adding Ten

We had a lot of fun spinning the number wheel today to help us select numbers to add ten to. We worked with a partner and made good use of the number lines and hundred squares to find our answers. Next time we will have a go at subtracting ten!

05.10.23 Patterns to Problem Solve

Today we worked practically to identify a pattern. We worked in small groups and laid out coloured T-shirts to work out the answers to our problem solving questions. Collaborating in this way helped us to speed up the process and combine our thinking skills.

02.10.23 Representing Numbers

Another Activity Based Learning lesson today to practice our representation of numbers within 500. We made good used of the Base 10 resources, arranging hundreds, tens and ones to match numbers chosen by our partner. This gave our brains a workout!

28.09.23 Outdoor Estimations

We took our learning outdoors today to estimate and measure capacity in litres and millilitres. In small groups we took turns to pour water into the measuring jugs and estimate the amount contained before checking the measurements on the side. When we came back inside we took it upon ourselves to estimate how much water we had in our school water bottles!

21.09.23 Estimating and Measuring Weight

We enjoyed practicing our estimation skills during Topic Maths today. Similar to our last session, we worked in groups to measure the weight of classroom objects in kilograms. After recording our estimations, we checked the scales for the true measurements. We weren’t too far off!

18.09.23 Ordering

We took our learning outdoors today and used chalk and number cards to build huge number sequences. We learnt how to order consecutive and non consecutive numbers within 500. This will help us to visualise and develop a deeper understanding of ordering which we can use in our written numeracy!

14.09.23 Estimating and Measuring in Metres

We made use of our estimation skills during Topic Maths today, before working together to measure classroom objects and furniture using metre sticks. We recorded our findings and used the greater than and less than symbols to compare our estimations with the true measurements.

11.09.23 Recognise numbers before, after and in between within 500.

During their number work today, the Primary 4 children engaged in an range of activity based learning activities to practice their recognition of numbers before, after and in between within 500.
