Play

💙🛝Physical Movement 🛝💙

We have been using the play park more recently as we have been learning about the importance of physical movement and how how our physical development can impact on our ability to be able to focus and ready to learn inside the classroom. While using the equipment in the play park there are numerous opportunities for us to explore and develop our skills in cross lateral, vestibular and proprioceptive movement. When we have had the time to seek out these movements, this has enabled us to return to class with more focus to sit and listen on the mat and make connections and sequences in our learning.

💦 Exploring Water in our Outdoor Provision 💦

When Miss Vaughan returned from her Outdoors Thinking course, she had been working on mud and water play. As a class we decided to introduce water play first as we didn’t have mud yet, but water is always available. We started off small in created an area to display and use our water equipment. We were able to develop our fine motor and early mathematical skills in a variety of ways using language associated with capacity, weight etc and developing our tripod/pincher grip using the pipettes and pouring from one container to the other.  There was also a lot of discussion about rain and the waterproof material of our coats.

🧣Introducing fabric Outdoors🧣

Introducing fabric to our outdoor play provision has enabled pupils to develop their imaginative and creative play skills. They have used the fabric to build role play areas such as - dens, homes, beds, magic carpets etc. While building these areas each group also discussed what the different fabrics reminded them off and how they felt. The fabrics were used to dress up and take on the role of various characters.

🎨🧱 Learning Through Play 🧱🎨

We have been exploring our Outdoor Play area and using a variety of large loose parts to build and construct.  This week we have seen trains, boats, secret entrances, Iron Man hands and many other constructions.  We have learnt a lot about balance, new vocabulary and team work this week
