WALT revise key concepts. P5/6 have been working hard this week at revising key concepts learnt throughout the year. This week we have used a variety of online resources, such as Mathletics and Word Wall to recap and review topics including times tables, time, angles, decimals and fractions. Who said revision canโt be fun?!
WALT use the mental maths strategy โfriendly numbersโ to multiply numbers. P5/6 are focussing on the mental maths strategy of friendly numbers. This is when the pupils use their maths knowledge of number to select a โfriendlierโ to multiply by before subtracting the extra group to get their final answer. The boys and girls will work on this skill all week before competing an assessment to test their understanding on Friday.
WALT calculate time duration and understand the features of a calendar. P5/6 continued with their time topic by learning about the features of a calendar. The boys and girls solved problems and answered questions on dates and calendars.
WALT identify equivalent fractions. P5/6 enjoyed their maths themed Easter Hunt. They hunted for equivalent fractions and enjoyed working together to match them up.
WALT understand fractions. P5/6 continued developing their fraction knowledge by working on this display.
WALT understand and identify equivalent fractions. P5/6 have continued their hard work on fractions this week. They are working hard to recognise and identify equivalent fractions.
WALT identify equivalent fractions. P5/6 have been using tables knowledge and a fraction wall to work out and recognise equivalent fractions!
WALT tell the time. We have started learning about time and this week we have been carrying out revision on reading a clock.
WALT represent an amount as a fraction. The boys and girls enjoyed problem solving in the sun this week as they were tasked with working out what fraction of the cars were certain colours. This was a great way to kick start our learning on fractions!
WALT to divide by 10,100,1000. This week the pupils have worked really well to understand how to divide by 10, 100 and 1000.
WALT convert units of measure. P5/6 pupils have been working hard to convert units of measure, beginning with length.
WALT divide. The pupils in P5/6 have been working extremely hard at honing their division skills, learning and practising the formal written method. Alongside this the boys and girls have used Mathletics to work on mental division and to see division in a range of contexts.
WALT develop our mental maths skills. When the pupils come in in the morning the first thing they often face is a maths challenge on the board. This gets the brain going and the boys and girls enjoy the varied nature of the tasks. This week they have been mentally finding numbers that make 1000.
WALT develop our mental maths skills. The boys and girls in P5/6 are taking steps to be the next Luke Littler while also developing their mental maths skills. Darts is a great way to work with numbers in your head, adding, doubling and trebling quickly to keep track of your score.
WALT multiply using zeroes. P5/6 have been working on multiplying large numbers with zeroes and have found it really enjoyable. Their hard work on learning their tables in the first term is really paying off, the pupils are confidently multiplying 5000x8000!
WALT revise our place value knowledge . The boys and girls have been using Mathletics to revise their place value knowledge after the Christmas break!
WALT improve our quick recall of tables
WALT use our tables knowledge to divide
WALT measure accurately
WALT sort data using Venn Diagrams. The pupils sorted items, including items found around our school grounds, into Venn Diagrams.
WALT solve problems using different strategies. P5/6 enjoyed solving problems outdoors this week as they worked on a number of problems involving multiplication, fractions and estimation.
WALT recall our 6 times tables
WALT draw bar charts. P5/6 have been putting their learning on bar charts to the test by drawing their own bar charts for the class display. We canโt wait to see the finished article!
WALT solve problems that develop our estimation skills. P5/6 took their problem solving to the great outdoors this week. The pupils worked together to estimate how many flowers they thought would be in ten planters before getting down to work and trying to get an accurate figure. Safe to say the estimations were revised a few times! A great morning well spent honing our problem solving skills!
