Number Work - Sequencing

Problem Solving - Estimation

We have spent lots of our problem solving sessions for the last few weeks exploring the topic of estimation. The children have gotten very good at judging an amount and making a guess. They have explored using non standard and standard units to count and measure. 📏🔢

Maths Number - Tens and Units

P3a are enjoying learning about place value. We understand that all two digit numbers are composed of tens and units. For example, the number 56 means 5 tens and 6 units. The boys and girls worked in pairs to represent two digit numbers using tens and units.

Maths Topic - Symmetry

This week P3A have been investigating symmetry using 2D shapes, pegboards, lego, interactive games and mosaic boards. The boys and girls enjoyed creating symmetrical patterns and pictures both independently and in pairs. They understand that something is symmetrical if it has two matching sides.

Math Topic - 2D Shape

P3A enjoyed investigating the properties of 2D shapes. They discussed the names of the 2D shapes and the number of sides and corners of each shape. The boys and girls enjoyed creating 2D shapes with pegs, wooden sticks and playdoh. They also sorted 2D shapes according to various criteria.

Problem Solving - ‘Look for a pattern’

The children have been enjoying exploring their first problem solving strategy ‘Look for a pattern’. They have been spending time completing and creating repeating patterns of varying degrees of difficulty using a variety of practical equipment and materials. They loved pattern building in our block play area. They are looking forward to carrying out lots more practise of this skill. Well done everyone. 🔵🔶🟩🔵🔶🟩

Number - Addition Skills

P3A have gotten off to a great start with their revision of their addition skills. They have put lots of effort into practising their quick recall of addition facts within 10 and have been developing their skill of being able to add 10 to a single digit to make teen numbers. Let’s keep up the great practise everyone! 🧮➕
