🎈WALT- Recognise, build and write CVC words 🎈

This week we have used all the great work we have been doing in Literacy and our knowledge of initial sounds to help us recognise, build and write CVC words. We are still making progress with this but have had great fun completing some practical activities to help us. One of our favourite activities was the game ‘Balloon Phonics’ on the Interactive Whiteboard. We had to work with a partner to look at the image and decide which balloon had the correct missing initial sound to complete the CVC word, we had great fun!

🌝 WALT- Identify and use adjectives 🌝

In talking & listening we used the story ‘The Marvellous Moon Map’ to focus on using adjectives/describing words to describe characters and settings. We had to work in groups to use adjectives to describe the setting of the story and the characters. This was tricky to begin with but with help from each other and Mrs Dagen, once we got started we realised we used adjectives all the time and were great at describing things 🌟

✍🏻 WALT- Identify and write tricky words ✍🏻

We have been working on hard on identifying and writing our Jolly Phonics sounds and tricky words. We had to find, say and write the sound or tricky word on our whiteboards. Mrs Dagen was very impressed with how well we did and how much our letter formation has improved! 👏🏻

🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♂️WALT- Identify rhyming words🕵️‍♂️🕵️‍♀️

This week we have been learning all about rhyming words. We have participated in lots of activities to help us remember words that rhyme and we even learned a song to help us. Our favourite activity was playing the game ‘Rhyme Robbers’, we had to work with a partner to match words that rhyme and if we were right we got to ‘steal’ them and put them in our rhyming ‘sack’ whoever had the most rhyming pairs won! Mrs Dagen was very impressed with how quickly we have picked up rhyming words and how much we can now recognise them throughout our learning such as during story time.

🌟WALT- Recap the sounds SATPIN🌟

This week in phonics we have been working hard to recap the sounds s, a, t, p, i, n. We have taken part in lots of activities including matching our sound cones to the sounds in our playground. We have been doing some great work in phonics and Mrs Dagen is very proud of how much we have learned 🌟🌟🌟

🎃✏️ WALT: Use time connectives to sequence pictures in the correct order ✏️🎃

This week in writing, the focus was on sequencing pictures of ‘how to carve a pumpkin.’ We had a go at carving a pumpkin earlier that week with an adult and had great fun scooping out all the ‘guts’. After this Mrs Dagen showed us the pictures she had taken of us and displayed them on our Interactive Whiteboard. We realised very quickly that Mrs Dagen was very silly and had out the pictures in the wrong order 🙈 We discussed what the correct order was and then had a go and moving them into the right places. We had to work together as a group using our key vocabulary- first, next, then and finally. We then had to choose a word each to write independently on our whiteboards and place ourselves in the correct order under the pictures, displaying the matching focus word.

👍👎WALT- Discuss things we like and dislike 👎👍

As part of talking and listening this week we played a game called ‘All about me’. We had to sit with a partner and take turns rolling a cube, on the cube there were some questions, the adults read out the questions and we each had to answer. This helped us to learn more about each other but about ourselves and helped with our turn taking skills.

🌈🐘WALT- Listen and respond to a story 🐘🌈

Mrs Dagen read us a story today about an elephant called ‘Elmer’. We loved this story and learned a lot from it. We spent time discussing the importance of the messages from the story such as, celebrating our differences and unique qualities. We talked about what made us different and what we loved about ourselves. We took part in some fun activities including making our own Elmer with cotton buds and paint to help develop our fine motor skills.

🐍 WALT- Identify ‘s’ as an initial sound 🐍

We have been working hard in phonics on our sound of the week ‘s’. We have been taking part in lots of phonics activities to help us identify the ‘s’ sound as an initial sound, we learned lots of words that begin with ‘s’ and we practiced our letter formation too!

🍇🧀 WALT- Take turns and name items 🍇🧀

As part of our talking and listening activities this week, we played a fun game. We had to work with our friends and choose a card with an item of food on it. We had to name the food, talk about what it looked like and if we had tasted it before. After that we looked at our lunch box to see if we could add the item to our list. We had great fun developing our friendships, understanding of taking turns and waiting and expanding our vocabulary.

✏️ WALT- Recognise our name ✏️

We have been working hard to recognise, make and begin to write our names. We have used our name cards to help us construct or names using Playdoh and we have even started to form the letters of our name to help learn how to independently write our names!
