We are very excited to be welcoming local business representatives to our school next week in order to provide Upper Key Stage Two children with an understanding of what is needed to run a business successfully.

This will begin with a visit from members of the Downpatrick branch of Santander who will share hints and tips on how to manage finances wisely on Tuesday November 30th, followed by a visit from Orla, manager of Mabel's Ice Cream Parlour in Downpatrick on December 1st and our week will conclude with a visit from local business owners Jim and Maria, who run Paws Doggy Daycare centre in Lisburn.

No doubt our guests will bring a great wealth of information with them and this will allow pupils to have any questions they might have answered.

As we prepare to begin this year’s Advent period, its important that we remember that this time of year can be difficult for those less fortunate in our community and beyond.

We are inviting those in our school community to donate to our school Giving Tree. For each donation our pupils will place a bauble on the tree, the bauble will display your family name in recognition of your generosity and kindness. All money raised through our Giving Tree, will be donated to our local St. Vincent De Paul Society, who will use the money to give vouchers to those who really need it this Christmas.

Donations can be made via the School Shop on SchoolMoney or by cash to the School Office. Thank you in advance for your generosity and willingness to help those in need in the run up to Christmas.

Throughout the week, the pupils learned about different types of bullying and how to get help and help others. Each class also took part in a poster competition to highlight different Anti-Bullying messages and the winning entry from each class was proudly displayed in the Assembly Hall.

We will all carry the message of Anti-Bullying Week forward throughout the year and use our kind words to let everyone know that “St. Colmcille’s says NO to bullying”!

We would like to congratulate Conor from our P4 class, who decided to save his pocket-money for the past few months to donate to charity! Conor saved £50 and along with a £50 donation from his family, donated an amazing £100 to the Welcome Organisation, a charity that provides essential services for those who are homeless. This incredibly kind act is a wonderful example of the caring and generous nature of our pupils and school community. We are very proud of you Conor!
