  • ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ…ฟ๏ธ St. Colmcilleโ€™s Church Car Park Safety Improvements ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ…ฟ๏ธ

    Tue 28 Feb 2023

Our children’s safety is paramount in all that we do at St. Colmcille’s PS.

With this in mind we have worked hard in Term 1 & Term 2 at improving safety within the Church Car Park.

    Improvements include:

New Signage reminding car park users which areas are inappropriate/ unsafe for parking
A new (& additional) speed reducing ramp
    Cones for restricting areas
Communication with the school community regarding parking safely around the school site
Staggered collection times on a Friday

Thank you to Mr Laurence & Gareth Blaney for assisting with the installation of signs, Mr McReynolds Outdoor Education Coordinator for his assistance with organising the works and Canon Murray for his support and ongoing permission for our school community to use the car park.

  • ๐Ÿกโ›ช๏ธ๐Ÿฌ Downpatrick Regeneration Working Group Survey ๐Ÿกโ›ช๏ธ๐Ÿฌ

    Mon 27 Feb 2023

At the beginning of the year, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council formed the Downpatrick Regeneration Working Group (DRWG) consisting of local businesses, political representatives and non-profit organisations including our school.

Over the past few weeks, the group has met to discuss potential ways to improve the overall experience of visiting Downpatrick. In order to give local people a say in how into how they would like their town to look, the DRWG has created a short survey asking for opinions on Downpatrick. It would be very much appreciated if we could get as many responses as possible. The DRWG is particularly interested in hearing the opinions of young people.

Please encourage your child to complete this form by following the link below and feel free to forward it on to others who may be interested.

  • ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿฅณ World Book Day ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿฅณ

    Fri 24 Feb 2023

On Thursday 2nd March, we are very excited to be celebrating World Book Day! World Book Day is a fun and exciting way to celebrate our favourite books and help make reading inclusive for all! World Book Day is a charity that changes lives through a love of reading! This year children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character and take part in lots of fun literacy and arts and crafts activities throughout the day. Prizes will be given across the key stages for the most inventive homemade costumes! (We would kindly ask parents/guardians not to go to any additional expense to make or buy costumes, but instead encourage children to be creative with what they have already to design their costume. Please see the poster below for low-cost ideas).

We would also love to see children enjoying reading at home and would welcome children sending pictures of themselves reading in unusual places or ways to their class teacher via Seesaw. Prizes will be given in each Key Stage for the most unusual pictures! The deadline for pictures is Thursday 2nd March at 9am. Pictures should be sent to your child's class teacher via Seesaw.

  • โœ๏ธ Beginning of Lent โœ๏ธ

    Fri 24 Feb 2023

Spirits were high as our pupils celebrated Shrove Tuesday, by making and enjoying pancakes, selecting their favourite toppings. On Ash Wednesday, classes participated in mass online, before receiving their ashes in a prayer service in class and learning about the traditions of Ash Wednesday and Lent. Lent is a time of reflection to remember the sacrifices that Christ made for us and in preparation for celebrating His Resurrection at Easter. We are looking forward to participating in the Lenten traditions of prayer, fasting and alms giving, as we progress through this important spiritual season.
