  • 🏰📚 This Week is... National Storytelling Week 🏰📚

    Wed 31 Jan 2024

This week at St. Colmcille's PS, we are busy celebrating National Storytelling Week 2024!

This fantastic annual event is a celebration of the art of storytelling and the power of stories to connect, entertain, and inspire. Stories teach us about the world, they allow us to step into someone else’s shoes and feel empathy, they help us to relax and escape and they can help develop essential literacy skills.

During this week, people of all ages come together to share and enjoy stories in various forms, from traditional oral tales to modern narratives.

Primary 3A introduced National Storytelling Week with a class assembly last Friday. Their parents were invited along to watch the performance and at the end of the assembly the children enjoyed sharing a story with their family member.

We look forward to sharing all the exciting learning and fun taking place later this week!

  • 🙏💜 Catholic Schools Week 🙏💜

    Fri 26 Jan 2024

This week at St. Colmcille’s, we have been celebrating Catholic Schools Week. Each day, the children completed activities connected to the theme: Catholic Schools as Communities of Service. On Wednesday, we celebrated Grandparents’ Day. The children from P1 and P7 invited their grandparents or a special person in to celebrate with a special tea/coffee morning and we acknowledged the important role grandparents play in our children’s lives. The rest of our children made lovely cards/poems and keepsakes for their grandparents. We had a winner from each key stage for their fabulous work and their grandparents/special person returned today for a lovely surprise. On Thursday, the P7 children served our local community by visiting the children in St. Colmcille’s Nursery school and carrying out an environmental cleanup at the Quoile Pondage Nature Reserve. The children also visited a number of businesses in the town who have been negatively impacted by the recent flooding. The children expressed their gratitude to these business owners and thanked them for their commitment to serving the people of Downpatrick and surrounding areas. Each business was given a small token to show our appreciation. Not all businesses have received gifts yet, in due course we hope to get around everyone. It has been a very rewarding and positive week, one which gave us the opportunity to put our faith into action. I’m sure you will agree this is reflected in our photos and in our children’s work. Thank you to all of our dedicated staff who assisted the children this week and a special mention to our two excellent RE coordinators, Mrs Morgan and Mrs Curran for all of their organisation during this successful week.

  • ❤️ Chest, Heart and Stroke Workshop ❤️

    Fri 26 Jan 2024

Primary 7 welcomed Jessica from Chest, Heart and Stroke Charity, for a very informative information session about smoking and vaping. The boys and girls explored some facts and myths about the dangers of vaping, as well as the health risks associated with smoking. It was a very useful session and the boys and girls were very grateful that Jessica took the time to support them in exploring the topic further.

  • 📚👏 Good Luck Primary 7 📚👏

    Fri 26 Jan 2024

Everyone at St. Colmcille’s would like to wish our P7 pupils who receive their transfer test results tomorrow the very best of luck!

We know that you all worked incredibly hard to prepare and that you gave it everything you have and that is truly more important than any result. Remember - a score in an exam does not define you.

You have already made us all proud! Good luck!
