Return to School Update
Thu 31 Dec 2020Dear Parent/Guardian,
I hope you are safe and well and managing to enjoy the Christmas Break.
In light of the Education Minster’s announcement this morning (31st Dec 20) regarding a delayed return to school until Monday 11th January, I wish to clarify a number of points and personalise the arrangements for the school community of St Colmcille’s PS.
-Having returned early in August 20, our school Holiday Calendar will stay the same and therefore children won’t be expected to engage in Online Learning until Wednesday 6th January.
-St Colmcille’s PS will be open on Wednesday 6th January to the children of Key Workers and vulnerable children. School Hours will be from 9.10am to 3pm for all children in attendance. In order to assist with staffing, please email me at saustin015@c2kni.net before 12pm on Monday 4th January if your child is attending school on these days.
- As before for those children who are not attending school, Microsoft Teams Lessons for all classes will be timetabled from Wednesday 6th January to Friday 8th January. A Microsoft Teams Timetable will be made available on Monday 4th January.
-For those children entitled to Free Schools Meals, it is anticipated that another payment will be made to parents on the week beginning 4th January.
- I would encourage the vast majority of pupils/parents to participate in Online Learning- however if Physical Work Packs are required for whatever reason please contact your class teacher via Seesaw and individual arrangements can be made for collection on the afternoon of Wednesday 7th January.
- Pre arranged phone parent/teacher meetings will take place as previously scheduled.
It is hoped with the release of new vaccines and greater awareness of Covid 19 that school operation will return to a greater level of normality and experience less interruption in the New Year.
Further updates will follow as and when I have them. In the meantime, I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year and once again thank you for your continued understanding and patience.

Sounds of Christmas from St Colmcille’s PS

School staff are very proud of the children who have delivered fantastic performances and have created a lovely Christmas atmosphere throughout the months of November and December. We do hope you enjoy the show and thanks to parents for all of their assistance with providing costumes. Thanks also to school staff who work in partnership to ensure our fantastic children always have opportunities to showcase their many talents! Santa Visits St. Comcille’s PS!
Fri 11 Dec 2020Everyone at St. Colmcille’s Primary School was surprised by a special visitor today. Santa brought each class Christmas in a Box, packed full of sweets, treats, chocolate and a Christmas movie to watch. Thank you to the PTFA for arranging the Christmas in a Box surprise and for organising Santa’s visit to our school!

Sensory Room
Fri 04 Dec 2020Vice Principal & SENCo Mrs Dempsey pictured with some of our fantastic pupils in our state of the art Sensory Room. The sensory room is a therapeutic and tranquil space with a variety of equipment that provides our pupils with special needs with personalised sensory input and helps these children calm and focus themselves so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others. Mrs Dempsey is always on hand to support our existing & new parents with their SEN queries.

🍄🌈🌻🌳New Sensory Garden & Play Park Improvements Coming Soon!🍄🌈🌻🌳
Tue 01 Dec 2020Our school site will be enhanced in a number of ways during Term 2 when two new gardens, a Nature Garden and a Sensory Garden, will be installed. The gardens will be located to the front of the school and will include planters, trees, bird tables, flowers, a water wall, play canal, Sand Area, Outdoor Classroom/Shelter, Bug Hotel, outdoor music station, picture maker and Tepee.
New Play Park Equipment will be added to our existing Play Park which will include swings, slide, seesaw, climbing tower and a range of balancing/climbing equipment.
We want to give the children access to the best possible facilities and look forward to completing these projects in the near future- work will commence 2nd February 21.
