  • ๐ŸŒŸ Autism Appreciation Day ๐ŸŒŸ

    Tue 29 Mar 2022

Saturday the 2nd April marks the beginning of Autism Awareness month. Some of our School Council members made the excellent suggestion to begin our celebrations this Friday 1st April with an Autism Appreciation Day, ‘Celebrating Me!’

We are inviting pupils to dress up in their favourite costume/outfit to develop our awareness of Autism and to celebrate our individuality. We will be supporting the fantastic work of Downpatrick Autism Family Support Group and encourage our school community to make a donation through the School Shop on SchoolMoney.

  • ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿงช ESB Science Blast ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿงช

    Tue 29 Mar 2022

Over the past few weeks, Primary 7A have been taking part in the ESB Science Blast project, which is organised by the RDS. The project requires pupils to come up with their own scientific investigation question, plan for an investigation, carry it out and finally, evaluate their findings.

Primary 7A came up with a question, ‘Can home-made toothpaste be as effective as regular toothpaste in removing stains?’

After experimenting and evaluating their results, the class then presented their research findings via Zoom to their Judge: Dr. Penny, from Trinity College, Dublin.

The class are very excited to receive their feedback from Dr. Penny in the coming weeks and finding out whether they will be awarded a trophy for their efforts. Well done, P7A!

  • ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผ Celebrating Science Week - Celebrating Growth ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผ

    Sun 27 Mar 2022

The theme for Science Week this year was “Growth”. As part of our celebrations we launched a whole school growing competition. Each class has been allocated a planter bed within our beautiful school grounds to design, plant with flowers and decorate. We are encouraging each class to think creatively about their design, perhaps by adding painted stones, garden ornaments or filled welly boots. This is a fantastic opportunity for our children to learn outside, explore living things and contribute to our school grounds. The children will also be responsible for looking after their flowers throughout the year. Good luck everybody!

  • ๐Ÿ’ Happy Motherโ€™s Day ๐Ÿ’

    Sun 27 Mar 2022
  • ๐Ÿ’Ÿ P7 Love For Life Workshop ๐Ÿ’Ÿ

    Fri 25 Mar 2022

P7 pupils from P7A, P7B and LSC4 were joined by Allison and Ryan from Love For Life on Thursday 24th March for an interactive workshop to help provide them with the tools to deal with the sudden and significant changes they face, that so often cause concern and anxiety at their age such as body confidence, relationships and who to turn to if they need help.

Primary 7 discussed characteristics which make them unique, by exploring the construction of their bodies, and discovered that growing up is a bit like being on a rollercoaster; it goes by quickly, it has ups and downs and sometimes there are bumps along the road, however it is ultimately fun and part of life’s journey and we should stay positive and enjoy it.

Everyone provided a fantastic contribution and engaged well with the team at Love for Life during this valuable learning experience.

    Mon 21 Mar 2022

Our PTFA have recently been successful in obtaining a £2000 grant for 5 iPads and have donated another £1000 which will allow us to purchase a further 3 devices. These new devices will be a very welcome boost to school ICT resources and will ensure our children continually access a diverse and modern curriculum.

    Thank you PTFA!
