  • 🌟 Nerve Centre Empower Partnership 🌟

    Sat 11 Dec 2021

Following on from our recent HP Digital School of Excellence Award, St Colmcille's PS was recently awarded the Nerve Centre Empower Partnership Certificate in recognition of the school's dedication to high quality practices within the subject area of ICT.

This is welcome recognition of our continuous efforts to provide our pupils with a modern teaching and learning experience which prepare our pupils for the 21st century workplace.

We are thrilled to have been invited to continue onto the second phase of the Nerve Centre’s Programme. The Create Phase Partnership will involve whole school development in our Creative Focus Area of Animation.

Well done to all of our staff for their development within ICT and special thanks to our Head of ICT Mr McReynolds, who is coordinating the programme on behalf of the school and is always very proactive in advancing ICT practices within the school!

  • 💼🍨 Business Community Links 💼🍨

    Fri 10 Dec 2021

Recently, we were very lucky to be joined by Orla Mulholland, manager of Mabel's Ice Cream Parlour in Downpatrick. Orla spoke with pupils, from Mrs Cassidy’s, Mr Brennan’s, Mr McKernan’s and Mr Lyttle’s classes, about what it takes to run a successful business. Orla very kindly donated some prizes to each class and we look forward to her presenting prizes to a lucky winner from each class in the not so distant future.

  • ✝️ Religion Updates ✝️

    Fri 10 Dec 2021

1500th Anniversary of St. Colmcille - On Tuesday, 7th December, we celebrated the 1500th anniversary of the birth of St. Colmcille. We enjoyed learning all about St. Colmcille on this day, the Patron Saint of our school. We celebrated Mass online, completed research and art-work while learning about his life as a missionary spreading Christianity around Ireland and Scotland. We learnt a very important message from St. Colmcille; that it is ok to make mistakes as long as we learn from them, always try to put things right and show that we are sorry.

Advent - As we celebrate the season of Advent the boys and girls have been creating some beautiful Advent art. We are using this time to think about others and the ways that we can prepare for the arrival of the baby Jesus on Christmas Day.

The Giving Tree - We are overwhelmed with the response to The Giving Tree fundraiser, the children have loved placing the baubles on the tree with the names of those who have donated. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind and generous donations. We are looking forward to giving the money raised to our local St. Vincent De Paul during the last week of school to help those who are less fortunate over the Christmas period. There is still time to donate if you would like to contribute.

  • 🌳🪵 Exciting Outdoor Refurbishments (due to be completed Jan 21) 🌳🪵

    Sun 05 Dec 2021

Please see below an image of our Nature Area which will shortly be under construction at the Front of the school.

Children learn best when they are engaged and enthusiastic about their learning. We are currently striving to provide bespoke and state of the art outdoor facilities for our children to ensure that teachers have the best areas & resources to inspire and drive forward our pupils learning.

The Rear Playground, which is mostly used by our younger pupils in P1-3 & LSCs, is also receiving a much-needed refurbishment. The tarmac and concrete surfacing is being replaced by a bespoke rubber surface and new fencing and ramped areas will be installed. The rubber surfacing will protect children against painful falls and trips and in due course will receive games-based markings and signage to increase playtime enjoyment. This is an exciting and much needed development for our pupils. Thanks to Colin McGrath, our local MLA, who worked extensively alongside school leadership to petition the Department of Education to invest in this improvement for the children of the school.

  • 🎄🎅🏼 Christmas Pantomime Trip 🎄🎅🏼

    Sat 04 Dec 2021

This week, everyone at St. Colmcille’s enjoyed an exciting trip to the Grand Opera House in Belfast to see the Goldilocks & The Three Bears Christmas Pantomime. There was plenty of music, laughs and impressive circus performances to keep everyone entertained and treats for all the pupils to enjoy during the interval. All of our pupils were excellently behaved throughout the trip, a true credit to our school and their families! Thank you to The Grand Opera House, Belfast for hosting our school for this wonderful performance. Thank you again to our PTFA for their recent Cash for Kids Fundraising which made the pantomime trip possible!
