ππ Rights News - Going for Gold! ππ
On 13th June 2023, St Colmcille’s was very proud to be awarded the prestigious UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Silver Award! Now we are very excited to share with our school community that we are working towards achieving recognition as a Gold Award Rights Respecting School!
As part of this you may notice some changes within school and through how we share on social media. One of our goals is to help make all our school community more aware of how everything we do is informed and guided by Children’s Rights outlined in the UNCRC. We will therefore be highlighting relevant articles from the UNCRC with news we share with you moving forward. This year we also want to further develop our children’s understanding of their Rights and encourage their global citizenship through advocacy. To support this our School Council will now be combining with our Rights Representatives who will be tasked with promoting activism within our school towards important issues that affect the lives of children locally and globally. They will also be raising awareness within our school community about equity and dignity for all children and will play an active role guiding us adults (duty bearers) on how we can ensure we achieve this for all our pupils. Currently, children are busy working in collaboration with the adults who support them to create class charters using the UNCRC and electing their class Rights Representatives! Stay tuned for further information about our journey towards Gold in the coming weeks!
