Easter fun day

Primary 5 enjoyed an end of term treat with an Easter fun day. First they had an Easter egg hunt in our play park, working together to solve Maths problems and find the correct egg to crack a code. Then, they enjoyed a visit from a petting farm, where they got to pet turtles, lambs, goats and even a snake! This was a well deserved treat for the children after working so hard this term.

St Patrick’s Day

P5 enjoyed celebrating St Patrick’s Day with a green themed day in school. They loved Irish dancing together, singing traditional songs making St Patrick’s Day cards. Happy St Patrick’s Day!

World book Day

Today we celebrated World Book Day! The children dressed up as their favourite book characters and discussed their favourite books. Throughout the day we enjoyed different activities, such as live lessons, designing book covers and visiting our very special Giving Library.

Young Enterprise workshop

Today P5 had a workshop with Young Enterprise, which focused on ‘building communities’. They learnt about the key factors needed to start a business and discussed the range of different businesses needed in a community. Then they enjoyed naming their own mini buildings which were put together to make a whole class mini city. They are entrepreneurs in the making!

End of half-term treat

Today we celebrated the end of this half term with a special treat! KS2 went to the hall to watch Inside Out 2 on the big screen. The PFA were very kind to organise slushees and popcorn for the children to enjoy. P5A have worked extremely hard this half term so they definitely deserved this celebration.

National Storytelling and Mental Health Week

This week we celebrated National Storytelling Week along with Mental Health Week. We were lucky to have a visit from children’s author Tim Baillie. He read his new book ‘The Proud Parakeet’ which focused on the themes of having pride in ourselves but not judging others. The children enjoyed listening to the story and engaged in a great discussion about the importance of being themselves. P5 also took part in activities in class throughout the week; writing their own stories on BookCreator based on the book ‘Incredible You’, as well as enjoying some ERIC time (Everyone Reading In Class).

Healthy Lifestyles workshop

Today we were joined by a team from the Dairy Council to learn about having a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

They taught the children about the importance of MILK:

Move your body to keep fit

Inside or outside all exercise counts

Let’s eat milk, cheese and yoghurt for calcium

keep the right balance between the food groups.

The children discussed food and fitness, sharing ideas about their own healthy choices. They learnt a rap to help them remember the steps to take for a balanced lifestyle and tried a dance to encourage them to stay fit.

Santa Visit

Santa came to visit the pupils to check in with who is on his nice list and give the pupils a little treat before Christmas.

Christmas Party

Christmas Jumper Daily Mile

We had great fun participating in our annual Daily Mile Santa Run to promote a healthy lifestyle and highlight the importance of exercise and fun in the outdoors. We also partnered up with older children from P1B and LSC3 who made the experience so much more enjoyable. Thank you!

Road Safety Week

This week we celebrated Road Safety Week by learning important messages about how to stay safe on the roads. This is timely as the darker nights creep in and the boys and girls got creative and put their learning into a poster, found key vocabulary in a wordsearch and completed a game on the ipads to ensure the child crosses the roads safely.

European Day of Languages

Ani very kindly shared her knowledge of the Bulgarian language with us yesterday, teaching the class and staff how to say some basic phrases and numbers in Bulgarian. благодаря Π²ΠΈ Ani!

The children also explored saying hello and goodbye in different European languages and how to count in 10.

Fire Safety

Ian from Downpatrick Fire and safety team joined us this morning to teach the P5s all about fire safety and the STOP campaign. The children learnt the importance of turning off all electrical items and closing doors at night time, checking smoke alarms work weekly and changing batteries annually and planning for any emergencies that might occur.

S- smoke alarm

T-test weekly

O- remove any obvious dangers

P-prepare any escape routes

Class planter

P5 have worked hard this week preparing our class planter by weeding, planting new flowers and creating a mini rainforest by decorating animals and adding them into the various plants.

Back to school treat

We were so lucky to be treated to an ice cream or slush drink to celebrate being back to school and were able to enjoy our treats in the sunshine! Thank you to Mr Austin and the PTFA.
