More phonics fun! This week we have been learning about the โ€˜auโ€™ sound.

P4A have been learning the โ€˜owโ€™ sound this week through a range of practical learning activities!

P4A have been learning to write newspaper reports, they have been searching through newspapers to see how they answer the 5Wโ€™s!

P4A took part in some exciting group work to discuss their novel, 'Fantastic Mr Fox' Today they focused on exploring vocabulary in the text from VIPERS!

P4A took part in some exciting practical learning activities to spell words with the 'oo' sound! The spaghetti was a particular favourite of many of the boys and girls!

For National Story Telling week P4A were so thrilled to welcome author Tim Bailie into school! He read his story the Proud Parakeet aloud to them and they had the opportunity to ask him lots questions!

As part of their Narrative Writing topic P4A worked in groups to retell the story of Fionn McCool using iMovie!

As part of their new writing topic, โ€˜Narrative Writingโ€™ P4A shared their favourite fiction stories with a each other. Some even read their favourite books aloud! We then worked together to identify important features of good narrative text to help us when we begin to write our own!

P4A have been having lots of fun taking part in a range of practical learning activities to revise their high frequency words!

P4A watched Mrs Claus on Literacy Shed and then worked collaboratively in groups to write a shared recount of her story! They structured their work using key features of a recount from their checklists!

P4A put their dictionary skills to the test to look up and record meanings of a variety of their spelling words from Term 1 with their learning partner!

P4A have been taking part in a range of activity based learning to practice applying their phonics knowledge to spell!

Writing, Problem Solving: P4A worked collaboratively in groups to create story maps with actions to recount when Hal met the King in their class novel, โ€˜The Queenโ€™s Token.โ€™

To finish of their instructional writing topic P4A had great fun carving some pumpkins! They then wrote a set of instructions independently on how to do it! Check out out our fabulous French pumpkin in honor of our World Around Us topic, 'Paris!'

P4A made spooky pumpkin Halloween decorations this week and then wrote instructions on how to make them so you can have a go!

P4A worked together for shared writing to create instructions on how to clean water following their World Around Us experiment based on the population in the Seine!

VIPERS, This week P4A took part in rainbowing to facilitate discussion to develop their comprehension skills focusing on Retrieval and Inference using their class novel, Georgeโ€™s Marvellous Medicine!

P4A have been revising their knowledge of syllables by counting syllables using a variety of musical instruments! P4A can use their knowledge of syllables to break down tricky words to help them spell!

P4A have been revising their knowledge of single letter sounds to sort real and nonsense words!

P4A have been using their knowledge of alphabetical order to take part in a dictionary race challenge with their learning partner! They had to race to find words, correct the spellings of words and find their meaning.

P4A took part in lots of practical learning activities to identify common and proper nouns! They hunted for common and proper nouns around the school, used paint to highlight proper nouns and worked with their learning partners to list and sort examples!

P4A have been learning to write instructions! They had great fun making tasty Tophats and then helped Miss Wilson write instructions on how to make them! They identified time connectives, bossy verbs and even helped Miss Wilson use exciting adjectives! P4A stated the best part was getting to eat them!

For the problem solving challenge in our new writing topic, โ€˜instructionsโ€™ P4A had to work collaboratively with their writing groups to put a set of jumbled instructions to make Georgeโ€™s Marvellous Medicine into the correct order! They made it a competition to see which team could complete theirs first!

P4 have been taken part in activity based learning this week to revise their knowledge of blending and segmenting words with single letter sounds.

Familiarisation. P4 were tasked this week with providing instructions to Miss Gormley to help her make a jam sandwich! All did not go to plan but provided P4 with a good insight into how to give clear and effective instructions! They then worked with their learning partners to identify important features in a variety of instructions to create a checklist to support their own writing!

P4 had great fun taking part in a hot seat activity this week to explore the thoughts and actions of George and granny in their new novel George's Marvelous Medicine!
