  • โœ๏ธ Lent 2022 โœ๏ธ

    Fri 25 Feb 2022

Lent begins next week, Wednesday 2nd March. We begin our Lenten preparation with Ash Wednesday, a Christian holy day of fasting and prayer. In preparation for the passion and death of Jesus on Good Friday and the resurrection of on Easter Sunday, the children in St. Colmcille's will be encouraged to 'give up' something that is important to them or 'go on' something that will get them thinking of others. This will help them to refocus their faith and encourage them to think about the sacrifices Jesus made when he went into the desert to pray and fast for 40 days and 40 nights. Over the next 6 weeks the children will be discussing the ways they can help more at home, how they could save their pocket money for charity, go to Mass more regularly and anything that will help them to follow more closely in God's footsteps. We look forward to updating you all with our Lenten activities in the coming weeks.

  • ๐Ÿ’ป โ€˜Irelandโ€™s Future Is Mineโ€™- All Ireland Minecraft Competition ๐Ÿ’ป

    Sun 13 Feb 2022

Since September, Primary 7A have been taking part in the 'Ireland's Future is Mine' nationwide Minecraft competition, in association with Microsoft Ireland and RTÉjr.

During October and November, pupils took part in weekly Minecraft lessons and challenges, set by Corey and Amanda from Microsoft Dreamspace.

After completing all the initial challenges, the competition challenge was set: Pupils had to create a more sustainable version of their local area!

From November- February, P7A have taken time each week to plan for and create a more sustainable version of Downpatrick. They used the mantra of 'Plan- Do- Review' to help them achieve this.

After completing their Minecraft creation last week, P7A created and edited their 3 minute video presentation using Apple iMovie software.

Now that the entry has been submitted, P7A are now waiting to see if they will be selected as one of the five Ulster Trophy winners, as well as whether they will make it to the national Semi-Finals, which take place in Microsoft Dublin later this year. The competition Grand Final will also be broadcast on RTÉ Television, with 30 laptops awarded to the winning school. Good luck P7A and well done on all your fantastic work! #IrelandsFutureIsMINE

  • ๐ŸŽจ Art Workshops ๐ŸŽจ

    Sat 12 Feb 2022

Our Foundation Stage pupils have recently been participating in fantastic Art & Design Workshops organised and delivered by the very talented Melissa Keenan. Our Primary 2 classes have been creating their very own self-portraits inspired by the works of Picasso. These workshops are an excellent way for pupils to develop their skills and expression through Art & Design and each class in our school will have the opportunity to enjoy these workshops in the coming months. Thank you to Melissa for providing her expertise to enhance the learning experiences of our pupils.
