Play Based Learning

Water Play 💦

This week the boys and girls had so much fun in our outdoor learning space exploring water. The children were provided with a range of materials and some water, and then were given complete freedom to decide what they wanted to do with them. It was so pleasing to see the children use the water and materials for a variety of purposes. From potion stations to exploring absorption, the children truly made good use of their equipment. Some of the learning that took place included:

Social: Seth observed Olivia creating a potion station with her water and materials. Seth loved what he saw and asked Olivia if she would like help. Together and with excellent team working skills they created a marvellous station.

Physical: Most of the children transferred the water between containers by pouring, stirring, squirting or squeezing allowing them to enhance their fine motor skills.

Intellectual: Daisy and Olivia-Mae were heard using terms such as ‘full,’ ‘empty’ and ‘half-empty,’ when describing the quantity of water in their containers. Well done girls, excellent exploration of capacity!

Communication: Jonah effectively used his communication skills to tell Charlie and Miceal that they were losing water because their bucket had a small hole. The boys listened to Jonah and decided to quickly change their container!

Emotional: When Ethan ran out of water, it was lovely to see Zach share his water with him. This made Ethan feel very happy. What fantastic friends- well done!

Miss Walsh and the rest of the adults in Primary Two are so excited to see what the children do next with their water play!
