PE
WALT: practise a routine and practise a stag leap
The children begun their first block of dance this year with us building towards creating our own Hakka style dance inspired by the All Blacks for the rugby World Cup. The children were exploring different ways to hop and jump and then practised the stag leap for a bit of fun. The children took to the lesson very well and are excited to continue this block to perform their Hakka for the rest of the class.
WALT: learn a Haka dance to the number of counts
The children warmed with a game of circle chases and then broke into pairs to have a game of air hockey. This required children to stay in the press-up position and slide a cone past their partner. This was testing their upper body strength in order to stay in that position for a prolonged period of time. After they had a whole class game of clear the deck with the cones. An enjoyable activity which helped improve upper body strength and core. Lastly, the children performed a Haka dance to the beat of 24 counts and then split into different groups to learn the routine and then perform in different groups.
WALT: learn a routine and rhythm.
The children this week were learning a sequence to jump through hoops In a rhythm. The children found this tricky at the beginning but persevered and got the hang of it after a few practises. We will practise this over the coming weeks and will be able to complete this in sync. We then continued with our Haka routine.
WALT: complete a routine and add our own element to it using a canon technique.
As a warm up the children played a game of air hockey with a cone to continue to build their upper body strength in a fun game. This progressed to a game of soccer using the cone as a ball to score between two cones. The other half completed relay races to complete a ‘rubiks cube’ style puzzle. The children had to run and move the cones to ensure all lines had the same colour. After the warm, the children added their own 8 count moves to the Haka. These were then performed using a canon style technique where one person completes the move independently then stops then the next person performs the same routine and so on.
Haka and Mini Tag Rugby Games
The boys girls had finally pulled all their skills from our Haka dance and rugby PE sessions altogether this week. They broke into their teams and performed their Haka routine before they played each team. Afterwards, they played numerous games of tag rugby in teams of 5 to ensure everyone got plenty of touches. A fantastic few weeks with the children enjoying creating their own Haka routine and the tag rugby games.
