Sound Hunt

We went on a sound hunt around school. We listened carefully for the different sounds we could hear, took photos and recorded. We will use our photos in follow-up lessons!

What The Ladybird Heard

WALT: Use adjectives to make our writing more interesting

We have been creating dinosaurs this term and then using our art work to build up our vocabulary. We had great fun working together, taking turns, agreeing on colours, patterns and materials. We then shared our work with the class using adjectives to describe our dinosaurs.

WALT: Explore the thoughts and feelings of a character

We watched a Christmas advert, ‘Monty The Penguin’ and discussed how the characters were feeling throughout the short film. The children noticed how the characters’ feelings changed in the film and we discussed different theories about why this could be. We also discussed how our body language conveys how we feel. We then came up with adjectives to describe the feelings of the boy and the penguin from the advert.

Talking and Listening: Polar Regions
We have been working on listening and following instructions. Whilst learning about Polar Regions, we put our listening skills to the test by carefully following Mrs Morgan’s instructions on how to make a penguin. Mrs Morgan kept it a secret as to what we were creating but we soon started to put our craft pieces together to work out we were making penguins! We had great fun 😊 and we really listened carefully and loved how everyone’s penguin was similar but unique to each child.

We have been learning to identify and match upper and lower-case letters. We have been learning all about big and small letters. We spent some time identifying capital letters in our reading books. We noticed that every new sentence starts with a capital letter. We played some matching games on the whiteboard before matching up the magnetic letters in our groups.

05/10/23       National Poetry Day!

Today we celebrated National Poetry Day and wrote five senses poems. This week the children have been reflecting on their school trips to Newcastle and thinking about how this ignited their five senses. They enjoyed sharing ideas such as tasting the salt water and smelling the slimy fish. Then they used these ideas to write their own five senses poems. The results were fantastic!

13/09/23         Roald Dahl Day!

Today was Roald Dahl day and LSC2 spent some time exploring Dahl's world of books. We read a short snippet of The BFG and thought about all the lovely dreams this giant caught in Dream Country. This inspired the children to make their own dream catchers so that they could have wonderful dreams too. Then, they thought about dreams they have for the future. They wrote about their dreams in a 'dream jar' - we had footballers, police officers and even power rangers! We hope these dreams come true!
