World Around Us

To start out new topic all about the Seaside, we looked at the dangers that can be found at the beach and seaside, we then used Minecraft to design and create a fun, safe seaside beach scene.

We used the Quiver app to look at dinosaurs in augmented reality. The pupils created their dinosaur design and once scanned by the app it appears walking around the page. The pupils really enjoyed this experience and working with Augmented Reality.

Today the pupils had the opportunity to present their POwer Projects to show all of the hard work that went in to them. The pupils worked very hard during the different parts of this project.

This week was Science week in school. To link in with our topic we looked at volcanoes. We made our volcanoes using a range of materials before painting them to make them very realistic. We then explored the reaction that takes place between vinegar, water, washing up liquid and baking soda. We added in food colouring to make the reaction more volcano like. This was an experiment that the pupils enjoyed and very pupil was able to make their volcano explode successfully.

Using a range of materials to create different pieces of dinosaur artwork.

We explored dinosaur fossils which linked on from work on our class trip. We used Minecraft to build a range of dinosaur fossils before talking about them with the rest of the class.

For our home project the pupils had to build a dinosaur themed creation. The pupils showed their excellent art and design skills to create a wide range of projects that were of an excellent standard. Well done to everybody!

Using Minecraft to build shelters that would be used to protect us in the Land of Dinosaurs.

Creating Polar regions green screen pictures.

For today’s task we looked at coding to create a polar region maze game. The pupils had to create the back ground and then use code to programme their animal to make it through the track until the end. If they went off the track then they had to restart. The pupils enjoyed the process and then being able to play the game at the end.

This afternoon focussed on the pupils using the loose parts items in the outdoor classroom to build a mode of transport that can move and float. The pupils showed great independence, creativity and team work to create their rafts. As you can see from the pictures the pupils had a great time and enjoyed the practical aspect of the challenge.

Redesigning a mode of transport that can move on rails.

LSC3 growing challenge. The pupils have created pumpkins using disposable cups. In these cups the pupils have planted grass seed which they will water and look after. We will look at how much light they need and where the best place for growth is.

With our Transport topic we have used this week to look at flight through a STEAM activity. Pupils had the opportunity to design and create a paper aeroplane using a range of different folds and bends. Pupils then tested them to see how they flew and the distance they covered. Pupils had the chance to then make any modifications they felt they needed to improve their flight distance before trying again.

The pupils had a home STEAM project of designing a boat that can float. We then tested the boats in class.

The pupils had a great time getting our planter box ready for the new school year. We had to get the plants tidied and take out any weeds that had grew over the Summer. We then added in our road, lakes, traffic signs and vehicles so that it reflects our new topic - Transport.

Today was a great day to get outside and discuss what we know about our new topic - Transport.
