As part of our work in developing fictional writing skills, P7 have been exploring the concept of story mountains further as a means of planning. In particular, they have been recognising the role of a climax towards the end of a story and the various bumps along the way to rise towards this peak.
World Book Day 2024
Thursday 7th March
Primary 7 celebrated this year's World Book Day through a range of fun activities.
Our pupils created and got into a range of costumes and outfits to celebrate the occasion. They also took part in a 'Boost-tasting' menu, where they created a 'three-course reading meal' based on a range of books. In the afternoon, they redesigned their favourite book covers, using skills in digital art through the 'Adobe Express' app. it was a fantastic day and a great follow-up to the visit of author Charlie Graham on Tuesday, where he shared some his fantastic stories and poems, as well as top tips for story writing.
Armagh Rhymers Visit- Storytelling week!
Thursday 1st February
As part of national storytelling week, Primary 7 joined their key stage in taking part in a workshop from the wonderful Armagh Rhymers! It was a fantastic exhibition of traditional Irish storytelling through music and drama. Primary 7 enjoyed the experience so much and it was a memorable way to celebrate storytelling week!
Poetry for our grandparents- Catholic Schools Week 2024
Tuesday 23rd January
As part of our Catholic Schools' Week celebrations, our P7 class created beautiful poetry and prayers, themed on the celebration of grandparents and the important role they play in shaping our lives. These poems and prayers were then shared with their families. Well done P7 on a beautiful effort!
Persuasive Writing!
Tuesday 19th December
Primary 7 have been hard at work in recent days, making their final contributions towards writing their own persuasive letter, using a wide range of persuasive techniques.
We are all very excited to read the final pieces as a class over the coming days!
Christmas Play 2023!

Primary 7 worked incredibly hard in recent weeks to put together a fantastic Christmas play, titled 'Straw and Order'.

Antibullying Week
13-17th November 2023
This week, primary 7 marked 'AntiBullying week', through a range of talking and listening tasks. These sessions related to the theme of 'Banter V Bullying', where pupils explored the difference between both. They also explored ways in which they can 'Make a noise about bullying', which allowed them to explore ways in which they can pro-actively action against bullying. To celebrate this, they made some fantastic posters to identify ways to make a noise about bullying.
Author Visit
Thursday 9th November
Today we welcomed Charlie Graham to our school, to take part in writing workshops and a discussion, around his book ‘Missing Monkeys’. It was a fantastic discussion and our P7s loved the opportunity to ask questions about Charlie’s life, writing and to gather some expert writing tips! Discursive Writing Preparations
Wednesday 25th October
To help prepare for writing their own balaced discussion text, Primary 7 took time today to explore arguments for and against a question posed.
Each group were given the statement that a particular person/ group was to blame for the Titanic's demise. Once given this statement, each group had to argue a balanced set of reasons to support and argue this statement. This has set the P7s up nicely for their next stage- planning and writing their own discursive text!
Olympic Descriptions
Wednesday 18th October
Today in Primary 7, we worked at developing effective descriptive language devices. We did this through first creating descriptive sentences to describe scenes from the video ' No Place Like Home', then improving it to a silver sentence and finally, improving this sentence to a gold standard.
Roald Dahl Day
Wednesday 14th September
Primary 7 had great fun participating in the Road Dahl Day Celebrations 2023!
Activities included:
- exploring the life of Roald Dahl
- Taking part in a Roald Dahl Day Quiz on his life.
- Challenging problem-solving questions relating to Roald Dahl.
- Roald Dahl character creations- half of the class creating heroes and the other half creating villains.

Similes and Metaphors
Tuesday 5th September
This week in Primary 7, we have been exploring our Literacy learning through the stimulus of the 'Titanium' video. As part of this learning, P7 worked in groups to develop descriptive words and phrases relating to the video's scenes. This was further developed into developing similes and metaphors to describe the characters and settings in the video. Teamwork played a crucial part in developing these ideas- see some images below of teams developing their descriptive ideas.
