We took our Numeracy work outside to look at using the clock to tell the time. The pupils were able to use outdoor items to make a clock. They they looked at a range of times as well as making times for the rest of the group to work out.
Using Fortune Tellers to improve recall of our times tables.
Shape Problem Solving activities using the IZAK9 cubes.
To focus on the Numeracy areas of speed, time, counting and distances we explored the daily mile Maths Trail. The pupils had to time each other completing a lap, count the number of steps it takes to walk around as well as estimating and the measuring the distance around using a trundle wheel.
We used the results of our survey of car colours in Newcastle to complete a graph using Microsoft Excel.
While in Newcastle we took the opportunity to gather information about the colour of cars that passed us over a period of time. Each group recorded their colour in the form of a tally chart and we then put all the information together in order to make a graph.
To link Numeracy and Digital Art we explored how to use a range of 2D shapes to create a tessellating tangram. Each pupil used lots of different 2D shapes and colours to create their tangram.
Working on using different coins to make amounts and calculate change.
To reinforce our addition and subtraction strategies we worked on a range of activities using the laptops and board games. The pupils enjoyed the range of practical activities to use their strategies in different ways.
To work on our addition strategies we looked at how we can play a game of darts and add up our scores as accurately as possible.
Exploring a range of 2D shapes by making a series of patterns and pictures. Pupils could use a template to find the correct shapes or use a blank screen to create their own image.
Building different Christmas pictures using a range of 2D shapes.
Solving Christmas pattern problems by finding the next Christmas item or the missing item from the pattern.
Working on using our addition and subtraction strategies using interactive activities.
Focussing on looking at place value through tens and units.
Maths Week 23! The focus for our Numeracy work this week was getting out around the school to use stopwatches to time the duration of different activities and explore adding through practical games like snakes and ladders. We also took part in a Zoom Numeracy session with hundreds of schools all over the country.
Working on solving problems using odd and even numbers.
Exploring a range of 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.
To continue our work on finding and making patterns we used the iPad to make patterns for our partner using different shapes and colours as well as finding the missing shape from the train pattern.
Exploring our numbers from 0-100 through a variety of different activities.
Exploring 2-D shapes around our school. We had to look around our school and all the outdoor places to see if we could find squares, circles, triangles and rectangles.
Todays task looked at solving problems related to patterns. Using 2-4 colours we had to work out what colour was going to come next, what colour was missing and then make a pattern for out partners to complete.
