taking part in several pre-confirmation workshops. Over the past few weeks, they have been
exploring the sacrament of Confirmation through the fantastic Youth Initiatives workshop. In these
workshops, the pupils have been taking part in exciting practical games and activities to help them
prepare.

Thanks to Youth Initiatives for providing so much assistance in helping the pupils prepare for
receiving the sacrament of confirmation.

P7B have been working hard by using their ICT skills to create cards for all the mothers and mother figures in our lives as gifts for Mothers’ Day on Sunday 24th March.

Children's Mental Health Week 5th - 9th February.

This week we celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week. Throughout the week, we discussed the importance of looking after our emotional and mental well-being. Children were invited to bring in an item which makes them proud or happy to share with their classmates. We concluded the week by taking part in a calming online art workshop to develop our skills in painting landscapes.

Safer Internet Day - 06.02.24

Tuesday 6th February was Safer Internet Day. P7B celebrated by taking part in discussions specifically about the many benefits of the internet and how we use it. We then highlighted some of the possible dangers of the internet, especially as technology advances. We then came up with solutions on how to avoid these dangers. After we listed our ideas we used an ‘Idea Filter’ to decide which ideas we felt were the most important and we could easily remember. These were;
1. We never share personal information online. This includes our name, passwords, address, school or phone numbers.
2. We only communicate with people we know. If someone we don’t know tries to contact us, we tell an adult.
3. We use reliable, up to date technology with strong passwords.
4. We only use apps that are suitable for our age group. If we are not sure if an app is appropriate we ask a parent/guardian.
5. If something seems too good to be true, it normally cannot be trusted. We don’t trust unreliable websites which offer prizes, giveaways or sell cheap, unreliable items.
P7B made some posters to remind ourselves of these rules which can be viewed above.

Chest, Heart and Stroke workshop 01.02.24

P7B and LSC4 took part in a workshop today which demonstrated the impact smoking and vaping has on our bodies, delivered by Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke.

This week we celebrated Catholic Schools Week, focusing on the theme of Communities of Service. The girls and boys in Primary 7 have been discussing the role our community plays in our lives, as well as their contribution to our community.

On Thursday (25.01) we celebrated Community Day. The girls and boys from Primary 7 visited local areas within our community to offer our services or offer a small token of appreciation. We visited local businesses throughout Downpatrick (particularly those impacted by the recent floods and offered our support and thanked them for the role they play in our community,) Quoile Pondage Nature Reserve and Countryside Centre (to take part in a nature walk and help maintain our local beauty spots) or St. Colmcille's Nursery to take part in an integration session with younger children.

We would like to thank all of the members of the public we were in contact with throughout the day who were very kind and welcoming.

As part of Catholic Schools Week, on Wednesday (24.01) we welcomed our grandparents and other special people in our lives to the school for a coffee morning. This was an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to our grandparents for all they do for us and let them know how much we appreciate them. The boys and girls in P7 each wrote a lovely prayer for their grandparents to mark the occasion.

Identifying how our conscience is Godโ€™s voice within us - 04.01.2024

Today we explored what is meant by ‘conscience’. We firstly predicted what that word meant before finding the true meaning by exploring The Parable of the Rich Young Man. We then explored scenarios whereby the outcome was impacted by the choices we make and ultimately by our conscience.

P7B also agreed that as they prepare for their Confirmation in the next few months, they are now viewed as adults by the Church and know that God speaks to us through our conscience to let us know what is right and wrong.

Preparing for Advent - 01.12.23

Today 7B discussed how and why we celebrate Advent as well as the importance of preparation. 7B then created their own Advent promises focusing on how to help others.

Parenting Week 16th - 20th October

This week we celebrated Parenting Week. We discussed the important people who look after us whether that be parents, grandparents or guardians and decorated cards with personal messages to those important people in our lives.
