📚👩‍🏫 Parental Phonics Workshop 📚👩‍🏫

On Tuesday, Mrs O’Dowd, Miss Vaughan and Mrs Rooney organised and hosted a Parental Phonics Workshop to inform parents of the programmes and strategies used in the teaching of reading and writing in the school.

The workshop focused on the theory and practise of the Jolly Phonics and Linguistic phonics programmes and gave families an overview of how reading and writing is taught throughout school. A range of practical activities, used in class, were explored, These activities help develop letter recognition, letter formation, blending and segmenting sounds to read and spell words, and parents/carers had the opportunity to try out some of these fun and interactive ways of learning.

Feedback from the workshop was extremely positive and families expressed how helpful this training will be in supporting their children’s reading and spelling. We aim to facilitate this Parental Phonics Workshop again in the future and would highly recommend participation to parents/carers who are interested in supporting their children with their reading, writing, and spelling.
