The World Around Us
β°πΆ Primary 7 Residential β°πΆ
11th June 2025
Many of our P7 pupils spent last Tuesday and Wednesday in Carlingford, County Louth, on their ‘Leavers’ Residential’.
It was action-packed from the outset! After arriving in Carlingford town early on Tuesday morning, they made their way to Carlingford Adventure centre: their base for the next two days. Here, they got introduced to the team of instructors, as well as their itinerary for the next couple of days. On the first day, the group took part in Kayaking across the Carlingford lough, as well as playing laser tag in Slieve Foye forest. After their dinner, the group returned to Slieve Foye forest to toast S'mores on their dusk campfire, that they helped to build! They finished off their evening with takeaways, treats and plenty of craic with their friends!
On day two, the group got straight to action after a hearty breakfast: by using their problem-solving skills to create their own water rafts, before testing them out on Carlingford Lough, with the stunning scenery of the Cooley peninsula as their backdrop. After enjoying their lunch, the group spent their afternoon in ‘Sky Park’, where they undertook the high ropes challenge and scaled the heights with wonderful enthusiasm. Everyone took on their activities with an eager determination and commendable enthusiasm, which was fantastic to see!
From start to finish, it was an unforgettable experience for all of the group and memories they will cherish for many years to come. Well done, Primary 7!

STEAM Challenge- can you build the tallest Earthquake resistant structure?
Thursday 30th January
In today’s investigative task, pupils used their learning of earthquake proof structures in Asia, to attempt to build the tallest class structure that would be ‘table shake proof’ for 10 seconds. Great creativity was shown by all, showing their learning effectively in relation to structural assets that can make a building more sturdy. Well done, P7!
Interest rates
Wednesday 18th December
Today in Primary 7, the boys and girls were exploring the use of interest rates in both saving and borrowing, as part of their 'Money Wise' topic. This involved recognising the benefits of high interest rates for savings, as well as the dangers of high interest rates when borrowing. From this, they worked in pairs to complete a series of interest rate challenges.
Titanic Belfast
Wednesday 11th December
The Primary 7 class had a wonderful day at Titanic Belfast on Wednesday, where they explored the exhibition of ‘Titanic Belfast’, to consolidate their World Around Us learning in the theme of ‘Titanic’.
The class highly enjoyed the experience, which included the opportunity to explore the famous Titanic slipways, the SS Nomadic Ship which ferried passengers to the Titanic, as well the world-famous titanic Belfast Museum. The tour first focused on the industrial and shipbuilding era of Belfast, before exploring the construction, launch and aftermath of the Titanic’s demise. Sink or float?
Monday 18th November
As part of our Scientific Investigation in WAU, we explored whether a range of items would sink or float, then used our results to explore what makes items float. From this, we recognised that buoyancy is caused by the density of an object- how tightly packed the space inside a shape is.
Making rights real!
Friday 15th November
This week in Primary 7, we explored how to make our rights real as part of our Rights Day. We explored a range of core rights in relation to some ethical scenarios, then make posters to highlight these rights.
