WALT: Develop our pre-writing skills by practising diagonal lines from left to right.

We had a wonderful time practising our pre-writing shape, the diagonal line, through activities linked to the nursery rhyme Incy Wincy Spider. We sang the rhyme together and explored lots of fun ways to make diagonal lines.

The children created spider pictures using potato printing, adding diagonal legs to their spiders, and drew rain falling from clouds using diagonal lines with chalk. We even took our learning outdoors to the Rainbow Garden, where we used the outdoor chalkboard to practise our shape in the fresh air.

At the creative table, the children drew diagonal sun rays using chalk markers on a tuff tray and coloured their own Incy Wincy Spider pictures, carefully adding diagonal legs with pencils.

These engaging activities helped the children develop their pencil control, fine motor skills, and confidence in forming diagonal lines while learning through play and creativity. 🕷️✏️☀️😊🌈
