WALT: To explore the story of Elmer

In Literacy, we enjoyed reading the story of Elmer and talking about how he is different from the other elephants. We discussed how, just like Elmer, we are all unique and special in our own way.

The children used the Patchwork app on the iPads to create colourful Elmer-inspired patches by taking photographs of bright and interesting objects around the classroom. At the fine motor table, they developed their pencil control and hand strength through cutting and sticking activities and pencil-control mazes.

We also explored the story through a range of creative play experiences. The children built their own Multilink Elmers, painted colourful elephants using cotton buds, and used Play-Doh to model elephants. In the sensory tray, they investigated a variety of colourful materials including rice, sand, paint, and cotton wool, encouraging discussion about Elmer's bright patchwork colours and patterns.

These practical activities helped to develop creativity, fine motor skills, communication, and an understanding that our differences are what make us special. 🌈🐘😊
