Exploring Our Emotions with The Colour Monster
This week in PDMU, P3 read the story The Colour Monster and explored a range of different emotions. We discussed how it feels to experience emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger, fear and calmness, and talked about how these feelings can affect our bodies. The children shared ideas about physical signs of different emotions, such as butterflies in their tummy, a racing heartbeat or a big smile.
We also discussed strategies that can help us manage our emotions, including talking to a trusted adult, taking deep breaths, finding a quiet space and engaging in activities that help us feel calm and regulated.
To reinforce our learning, the children coloured their own Colour Monsters and reflected on how they were feeling. They discussed which colour they associated with their emotions and explained their reasons for their choices. This thoughtful activity encouraged self-awareness, emotional recognition and positive conversations about feelings.
It was wonderful to see the children sharing their thoughts so openly and developing a greater understanding of their emotions and wellbeing. 🌈😊💙
