P3 have been developing their number skills by exploring doubles and near doubles through a range of practical, hands-on activities.

Some children used dice to identify doubles up to 12, recording the matching number sentences and calculating the totals. Others investigated doubles using mirrors and counters, creating a set of counters and using the mirror image to find the double before writing the corresponding addition fact. Another group used paired pegs to build and explore doubles, creating number sentences such as 2 + 2 = 4 and 4 + 4 = 8, helping them to recognise patterns and relationships between numbers.

Through these engaging activities, the children developed their understanding of doubles and near doubles while strengthening their mental maths skills and number confidence. It was fantastic to see the children using different strategies, working collaboratively and explaining their mathematical thinking. 🎲🔢🪞⭐
