The Great Fire of London

P3 have been thoroughly enjoying learning about the Great Fire of London in our World Around Us topic. So far, we have explored the differences between London in 1666 and London today, helping us to understand why the fire spread so quickly and caused such widespread damage.

During our activities, some children carefully analysed pictures of London in 1666, identifying clues that explained why the fire spread so rapidly. They spotted features such as wooden buildings, houses built very close together and the narrow streets that allowed the flames to travel quickly through the city.

Other children drew Tudor houses and investigated the impact the fire had on them. Some used oil pastels to create detailed Tudor-style designs and capture the bright colours of the flames, while others chose to use drawing tablets to create their artwork digitally. Children also used LEGO to build Tudor houses, demonstrating how closely packed the buildings were and how narrow the streets would have been.

Through our play-based learning activities, the children have shown great creativity, curiosity and historical understanding. We are absolutely loving this topic and are excited to find out more about how the fire started, what happened between Sunday and Wednesday, and why the Great Fire of London continued to burn for so many days. 🔥🏠⭐📚
