Recognising and Sorting Imperative Verbs

P3 have begun exploring imperative (bossy) verbs as part of our writing lessons. We started by learning what verbs are and discussing how imperative verbs are used to give instructions or commands.

The children explored different types of imperative verbs used for a variety of purposes, including recipes, crafts, exercise instructions and directions. Working in groups, they read and acted out a range of bossy verbs, helping them to understand their meaning through movement and discussion. The children then sorted the verbs into the correct categories and thought of their own examples to add to each group.

This practical and interactive lesson helped the children build their vocabulary, develop their understanding of instructional language and prepare for writing their own sets of instructions in the coming weeks. We were impressed by their creativity and enthusiasm as they acted out and identified a wide range of imperative verbs! ✏️📖⭐
