P3 had a fantastic time celebrating Roald Dahl Day through a range of creative literacy activities inspired by some of his famous stories.

We began by listening to an extract from The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me and discussing the unusual animal window-washers featured in the story. This sparked lots of imaginative thinking as the children considered what other human jobs animals could do. We came up with some brilliant ideas, including sharks as butchers, cheetahs as Olympic runners, and many more! The children then drew and labelled their own animal characters with human jobs, showcasing their creativity and vocabulary skills.

Later, we listened to an extract from Fantastic Mr Fox and learned about the deep underground tunnels Mr Fox uses to escape from the three farmers and store his discoveries. Inspired by the story, the children worked collaboratively to design and build their own escape tunnels for Mr Fox using Play-Doh, LEGO, bricks, and drawings. Their creations demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills, imagination, and teamwork.

The children responded wonderfully to the stories and were so engaged that they continued asking to hear more Roald Dahl tales in the days that followed. It was a memorable day filled with creativity, storytelling, and lots of enthusiastic learning! 📚🦊✨
