WALT: practise the pre-writing shape +

This week, the children took part in a pre‑writing lesson linked to the nursery rhyme Miss Polly Had a Dolly. We listened to and responded to the rhyme, talking about the story and the characters.

The children explored shapes and early writing skills through a range of practical activities set up at different stations. These included:

• A teddy hospital role‑play area

• Creating stickers and labels for the patients

• Writing prescriptions, encouraging mark making and early letter formation

The children also used name cards to help them write their friends’ names, supporting letter recognition and developing confidence in writing for a purpose.

These activities helped build fine motor skills, early literacy, and imagination through play.
