WALT estimate measurements

As part of Maths Week Ireland, pupils took part in an engaging lesson focused on estimating and measuring. They were presented with a variety of statements containing different units of measurement and challenged to decide whether each statement was accurate or not.

Using their knowledge of length, height, distance, weight and capacity, pupils made educated guesses and justified their reasoning before discussing their answers with their peers. The activity encouraged them to think critically about real-life measurements and develop a better understanding of appropriate units of measure.

Pupils demonstrated excellent reasoning skills as they compared estimates, explained their thinking and reflected on the accuracy of their choices. This enjoyable lesson helped to build confidence in numeracy while highlighting the importance of estimation in everyday life.
