WALT: Recognise, name, and explore 2D shapes
We had lots of fun exploring 2D shapes through a variety of exciting, hands-on activities! The children used Bee-Bots to follow routes to different shapes, developing their coding and problem-solving skills while revising shape names.
We then went on a shape hunt around the school, searching for shapes hidden by Miss Smith. Using the iPads, the children took photographs of the shapes they discovered and talked about their different properties.
Back in the classroom, we enjoyed a game of Shape Bingo, helping us to recognise and name a range of 2D shapes. To link our learning with Halloween, the children used shapes to create their own witch pictures, identifying circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares as they built their spooky creations.
It was a fantastic lesson filled with exploration, creativity, and mathematical thinking as we became shape detectives and shape experts! ππΊβπΈπ€β¨
