Discovering the Properties of 3D Shapes 📐
This week in Numeracy, we explored 3D shapes and their properties. Together, we discussed the names of different 3D shapes and talked about their faces, edges and vertices. We then worked in groups to investigate a range of shapes, identifying and describing their properties.
To deepen our understanding, we made 3D shapes using playdough and challenged ourselves to build cubes, cuboids and pyramids using LEGO. We also explored wooden blocks, discussing which 3D shapes they represented and how they could be used to create different structures. Some children further developed their learning through an interactive whiteboard game where they sorted and classified real-life objects according to their 3D shape. It was a fun, practical lesson that helped us become more confident in recognising and describing 3D shapes all around us! 🧊📐🏗️✨
