Exploring the Great Fire of London Through Sources ⭐
This week in World Around Us, we continued our learning about the Great Fire of London by exploring historical sources and discussing whether they are reliable or unreliable. We learned about Samuel Pepys, an eyewitness to the fire, and discovered why his diary is such an important source of information for historians. We sorted different sources into reliable and unreliable categories and discussed how they help us learn about the past.
We also drew portraits of Samuel Pepys and wrote captions explaining his role in helping us understand the events of 1666. Some children created beautiful Great Fire of London artwork using card and tissue paper to represent the flames and burning buildings, while others used playdough to model different parts of the fire. We enjoyed developing our historical thinking skills and discovering how evidence from the past helps us understand important events today!
