Exploring Symmetry!

This week, P3 were introduced to symmetry and learned what it means for a shape or picture to have two matching halves. We used mirrors to investigate lines of symmetry and took part in interactive games on the whiteboard, identifying the correct symmetrical image to complete different pictures.

During our practical activities, some children used mirrors to complete the missing half of pictures, while others created symmetrical models and patterns using playdough. Another group used mirrors and a cut-and-stick activity to create beautiful symmetrical butterflies.

The children enjoyed exploring symmetry in a hands-on way and are beginning to recognise lines of symmetry in shapes, patterns and everyday objects. 🦋🔍✨
