Book Week 2025 – A Spook-tacular Celebration of Reading! This week in St. Colmcille's, we join schools across Northern Ireland to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Book Week NI. Pupils will enjoy a variety of engaging activities that celebrate the joy of reading and encourage a lifelong love of books. These include at home reading challenges, a bookmark design competition themed 'Reading is Spook-tacular', KS2 reading buddy sessions and some familiar faces popping in to share stories in our classrooms. Each day will also include dedicated time for reading for pleasure, helping children build positive reading habits and sparking their imagination. On Wednesday 22nd we encourage pupils to visit their local library as part of Love Your Library Day – a great chance to sign up, explore and enjoy all that libraries have to offer. We're thrilled to be part of this fang-tastic celebration of books and literacy! #BookWeekNI

Maths Week Ireland It was another fun, busy week at St. Colmcille's as we celebrated Maths Week Ireland 2025 with lots of fun and engaging activities across the school. Several classes participated in live lessons and completed problem-solving tasks with thousands of other children across Ireland. Right across our Key Stages we had children making the most of our great outdoor areas to complete maths tasks. This involved a lot of measuring, shape hunting, completing our unique Maths Trails through problem solving, recognising patterns and sequences. Finally, congratulations to our Maths Champions who impressed their teachers with their efforts and determination in all the Maths Week tasks. Well done to all our winners!

School Council Meeting Summary The school council met with Mr Austin this week to discuss a variety of topics. The children shared how much they appreciated the school's 50th anniversary celebrations. They especially enjoyed making models of the school, designing a school flag, and the fun day with bouncy castles. Looking ahead to Halloween, it was agreed that there will be buns at the disco and chances to take part in Halloween arts and crafts. For the Christmas treat, it was agreed that Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 will go to a play at the Down Arts Centre, while Key Stage 2 pupils will enjoy a trip to the cinema. The council also discussed playtime improvements. Mr Austin agreed to order new basketball nets for break and lunchtime play! Well done to the school council for a very productive meeting! Article 12 of the UNCRC guarantees every child the right to express their views freely on all matters affecting them, with their opinions given due weight according to their age and maturity.
