🐣🐰🎉 Easter Fun Day 🐣🐰🎉
Everyone at St. Colmcille’s enjoyed all the fun events organised yesterday on our Easter Fun Day! Each child participated in their class Easter Egg Hunt around our beautiful school grounds and enjoyed a fun tractor ride around the playground, generously provided by Mr Michael Keenan. We were delighted to welcome Castlescreen Farm who brought lambs, goats, sheep, a donkey and a pony to visit all the boys and girls. There was lots of fun to be had holding and feeding the animals, including an introduction to Goat Yoga! To top off this fantastic day, our wonderful PTFA gave every pupil an Easter Egg and provided a tasty Teddy Bear’s Picnic for all to enjoy! Thank you to all involved for their contributions and organisation of this event!

🔬🧪⚡️ Science Week 🔬🧪⚡️
The children loved celebrating Science Week in school this week. Each class planned and carried out lots of exciting experiments and discovered some amazing results! The children participated in investigations from all areas of Science; including plant growing in Biology, mixing solutions in Chemistry and exploring electricity and magnets in Physics. We hope that Science week has inspired some future scientists!

As today is the last Friday of the Month, each class were treated to a springtime chocolate treat to enjoy in the sunshine! Thanks to the PTFA for organising this treat for all the pupils.

☘️🇮🇪 Green Day Celebration ☘️🇮🇪
Everyone at St. Colmcille’s celebrated Green Day in style today, ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, with lots of fun activities in class and a disco for all to enjoy and show off their dance moves! The pupils were also treated to refreshments and tasty snacks! A special thanks to our fantastic PTFA for providing treats for the pupils and for beautifully decorating school for our Green Day celebrations and thanks to Philip Hanna for providing his DJing skills and keeping the party going with upbeat and fun Irish-themed music.

📚🎉 World Book Day 📚🎉
St. Colmcille’s Primary School celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March. This year was the 25th year of World Book Day and there were lots of celebrations in school. The official World Book Day message for 2022 is ‘you are a reader’!
St. Colmcille’s Primary School celebrated World Book Day with classes focussing on a range of traditional tales and familiar stories from Rising Stars Reading Planet. Each class held an ICT-themed competition. There were many fantastic entries such as animations, PowerPoints and Pic Collage posters. One winner was chosen from each class based on their enthusiasm and independence.
The whole school participated in a ‘Decorate the Door’ challenge. Each class decorated their classroom door with arts and crafts based on their focus book. The corridors were full of colour and creativity!
The pupils were invited to come to school dressed up as their favourite book characters. We had everyone from Snow White to Goldilocks, The BFG to Mr Willy Wonka! It was a marvellous celebration full of fun, excitement and learning.

🕹📱 Safer Internet Day 2022 🕹📱
This week we celebrated Safer Internet Day and have been learning lots about this year’s theme ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’. Pupils across the school took part in lots of fun, practical and engaging activities to learn about the importance of showing respect to each other when gaming, as well as how to stay safe when using different online devices. We finished the week with a competition, where pupils had the opportunity to showcase their learning and knowledge in a variety of ways. Each class teacher chose an overall winner, who received a certificate to celebrate their great work, along with a cupcake and an ICT Pass that the pupils can use to enjoy some ICT game/activity time after the mid-term break. Well done to all our pupils for their fantastic work throughout the week!

🥳💯 Celebrating 100 Days of School 🥳💯
On Friday 4th February, we celebrated the 100th Day of School in St. Colmcille’s PS. We began the day with a whole-school assembly which highlighted why we celebrate 100 Days of School and how Maths is important throughout our everyday lives. We learned ways we can celebrate our 100 Days of School through other subject areas. Throughout the week the pupils had opportunities to participate in a range of different Numeracy lessons, both inside and outside of the classroom to show that learning in Numeracy can happen in lots of different ways, places and using a range of resources. The Numeracy Team in school also ran a Mental Maths Bee for each year group, which the pupils enjoyed competing in.

🎄🍽 Christmas Dinner & Jumper Day 🎄🍽
Everyone enjoyed all the festive Christmas fun, with pupils (and staff!) wearing their finest and funniest Christmas jumpers to school on Thursday. Throughout the day, all classes took part in the Christmas Daily Mile and at lunchtime, the pupils were treated to their delicious Christmas dinner. A special thank you to Mrs McGrath, Mrs Baker and all the canteen staff for their hard work and for preparing such a fantastic feast for us all to celebrate Christmas!

🍕🍔🍟🥳 Pizza & McDonald’s Party 🍕🍔🍟🥳
The classes who came 1st, 2nd and joint 3rd in the Pumpkin Design Competition, had a special treat in school yesterday. LSC 4, P6 and P7A all enjoyed a pizza party, while P3 enjoyed a treat from McDonald’s. Thank you to the PTFA for organising this special prize for the competition!
🏊♀️ P3/4 Find Out About Sea Swimming 🏊♂️
P3/4 were very lucky to have a visit from Moya Laird, an avid sea swimmer and nanny of Chloe who came to visit to tell the class about her fascinating hobby. Moya explained how she prepares for her swims and all the measures she takes to stay safe in the open water. She also showed us the special clothing she wears when she comes out of the water to get warm again. P3/4 really enjoyed finding out all about sea swimming, they particularly loved hearing about the special seal that sometimes says hello to Moya in the water around Killough.

🥳📚 Roald Dahl Day Celebrations 🥳📚
On Monday 13th September St Colmcille's Primary School celebrated Roald Dahl Day - a special day to remember the talented author who wrote more than 20 children's books.
Roald Dahl died on 23rd November 1990. Every year, since the 13th September 2006 - on what would have been his birthday - there's a special Roald Dahl Day to celebrate his stories and their characters. This year would have been his 105th birthday! The boys and girls spent the day learning all about Roald Dahl's life, reading some of his most popular stories and participating in a range of creative and engaging activities.
Each class received a 'Golden Ticket' which was awarded for enthusiasm, positive input and impressive effort. This Golden Ticket earned the winning pupil a homework pass for one evening, one extra hour of golden time and a delicious hot chocolate and cookie treat. Congratulations to all our Golden Ticket winners!
