π Autism Acceptance Week π
Today is World Autism Awareness Day, which is celebrated by 193 member states of the United Nations!
On Friday, as part of Autism Acceptance Week, we held our own ‘Celebrating Me!’ event in St. Colmcille’s to mark the occasion. Our pupils enjoyed coming to school dressed in their own outfits and costumes that made them feel confident, comfortable and showcased their wonderful personalities! We participated in a special assembly, as well as fun and engaging activities throughout the day to learn more about what Autism is and what we can do as a school community to help understand and support our autistic friends to ensure they feel accepted and appreciated.
Our aim is that all autistic people in our school and wider community feel accepted and appreciated as an autistic person in a positive way. As part of our work on teaching our pupils about what Autism is, we also highlighted what we can do as a school community to help understand and support our autistic friends.
