Yay!! We’re going back to school!!!
✏️ Week 8: 1st March-5th March
This week we celebrated World Book Day! It was a little different this year being at home but we still had lots of fun! We completed a potato challenge and created our favourite book characters, Mrs Cassidy couldn’t believe how real they looked they definitely didn’t look like they were made from potatoes! We also talked about our favourite place to read and created a World Book Day poster on teams. In numeracy we continued our time work by looking at the months of the year. We learned about pirate ships, created our own flags and looked at some famous pirates from history. In our Teams session we made shortbread cookies, they were delicious! Junior Bake Off here we come! 👩🏼🍳🧑🏻🍳
✏️ Week 7: 22nd-26th February
This week we learned all about Chinese New Year. We read a book called Dragons in the City which told us lots of interesting information about how Chinese New Year is celebrated around the world. During our Teams session we drew Toothless the dragon and wrote Happy New Year in Chinese. This week we also focused on Lent and made our Lenten promises for 2021. In numeracy we have moved on to a new topic: time. We looked at days of the week and learned a funky song to help us remember their order. Our Pirates topic is going swimmingly, we made Pirate hats together and discussed all the things we already know about Pirates.
✏️ Week 6: 8th-11th February
This week we read two stories: Aisha the Superhero and The Gruffalo. We drew characters from the Gruffalo following a step by step process on Teams. Mrs Cassidy thinks we could be professional artists when we grow up she was that impressed. We also made pancakes on Teams they were super yummy!!
We finished off our topic in World Around Us this week, we looked at hospitals and the NHS. We are beginning our new topic The Sea and Pirates after midterm. In numeracy we counted in 2s and did some great work on patterns. In Literacy we wrote about our secret identities and created our own terrible creatures. This week is Internet Safety Week and we made some fantastic posters using different types of ICT to highlight how to stay safe online. We’ve all worked really hard since coming back after Christmas and are looking forward to relaxing during our week off for midterm.
✏️ Week 5: 1st-5th February
This week we celebrated St Brigid’s Day. We learned about her story and watched a great show from Armagh Rhymers about St Brigid. We read two new books this week: The Perfect Pet and The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark. We completed some persuasive writing about our perfect pets- they were very convincing! In our World Around Us we completed activities on the Police Service and the RNLI/Coastguard service. We had a go at taking our own fingerprints and examining what they looked like. In Numeracy we are counting in 2s and we started looking at subtraction on our Microsoft Teams session. We also showed Mrs Cassidy how good we are at baking, we made 3 ingredient scones during our Wednesday Microsoft Teams session. We would definitely be crowned star bakers! 👩🏼🍳🧑🏻🍳
✏️ Week 4: 25th-29th January
This week we celebrated Catholic Schools Week and Grandparents Day! Each day we had a new activity and on Wednesday we created cards for our Grandparents or someone we love at home. We read two books: The Day the Crayons Quit and A Loud Winter’s Nap. We learned about Paramedics and the Air Ambulance this week in our World Around Us topic work. We discovered how they help us when we are sick or injured. In numeracy we are continuing to work on addition and on Teams we worked on counting in 2s, Mrs Cassidy was very impressed.
✏️ Week 3: 18th-22nd January
This week we looked at the stories ‘You Must Bring a Hat’ and ‘A Monster Surprise’. We invented our own invitations with silly rules, wrote a menu for a tea party and discussed how the characters felt at different points throughout the stories. In Numeracy we continued our work on addition and money. In our World Around Us work we took an in depth look at fire fighters and discovered the fantastic things they do to help us in emergency situations. We also learned about fire safety and created fire safety posters for our homes.
✏️ Week 2: 11th-15th January
Have a look at some of the work we have been doing in week 2 of home learning. This week we read two books together on our virtual lessons: Part of the Party and The Runaway Iceberg. We completed some activities based on these books. Throughout this week we have also been revising our addition skills and working with money to make amounts!
